Book Description
This research examined the impact of usability guidelines and front-end web site design on consumer aesthetic evaluations of e-commerce web sites and perceptions of the e-retailer. A detailed web site design guidelines framework was developed from an in-depth review of the usability, human factors, and human-computer interaction web design guidelines literature. Four web site design factors (background color, white space, thumbnail image location, and thumbnail image size) were selected and varied using this framework. In addition, as a secondary research focus, this study explored the impact of these front-end web site design factors on consumer trust, product preference, and purchase intention. A conceptual model was proposed which integrated usability and web site design with consumer web site evaluation, trust, purchase intention, satisfaction, and loyalty. Conjoint analysis and optimal design methodologies were then used to design web page prototypes. Results indicated that subtle front-end web site design elements impacted consumer aesthetic evaluations of the web page and subsequent e-retailer evaluations. Results also provided support for the conceptual model developed.

Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540877533
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 401

Book Description
Conjoint analysis is probably the most significant development in marketing research in the past few decades. It can be described as a set of techniques ideally suited to studying customers’ decision-making processes and determining tradeoffs. Though this book is oriented towards methods and applications of conjoint analysis in marketing, conjoint methods are also applicable for other business and social sciences. After an introduction to the basic ideas of conjoint analysis the book describes the steps involved in designing a ratings-based conjoint study, it covers various methods for estimating partworth functions from preference ratings data, and dedicates a chapter on methods of design and analysis of conjoint-based choice experiments, where choice is measured directly. Chapter 5 describes several methods for handling a large number of attributes. Chapters 6 through 8 discuss the use of conjoint analysis for specific applications like product and service design or product line decisions, product positioning and market segmentation decisions, and pricing decisions. Chapter 9 collates miscellaneous applications of marketing mix including marketing resource allocation or store location decisions. Finally, Chapter 10 reviews more recent developments in experimental design and data analysis and presents an assessment of future developments.

Automated Web Site Evaluation

Automated Web Site Evaluation PDF Author: M.Y. Ivory
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401703752
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 215

Book Description
Among all information systems that are nowadays available, web sites are definitely the ones having the widest potential audience and the most significant impact on the everyday life of people. Web sites contribute largely to the information society: they provide visitors with a large array of services and information and allow them to perform various tasks without prior assumptions about their computer literacy. Web sites are assumed to be accessible and usable to the widest possible audience. Consequently, usability has been recognized as a critical success factor for web sites of every kind. Beyond this universal recognition, usability still remains a notion that is hard to grasp. Summative evaluation methods have been introduced to identify potential usability problems to assess the quality of web sites. However, summative evaluation remains limited in impact as it does not necessarily deliver constructive comments to web site designers and developers on how to solve the usability problems. Formative evaluation methods have been introduced to address this issue. Evaluation remains a process that is hard to drive and perform, while its potential impact is probably maximal for the benefit of the final user. This complexity is exacerbated when web sites are very large, potentially up to several hundreds of thousands of pages, thus leading to a situation where eval uating the web site is almost impossible to conduct manually. Therefore, many attempts have been made to support evaluation with: • Models that capture some characteristics of the web site of interest.

Usability Evaluation Framework for E-commerce Websites in Developing Countries

Usability Evaluation Framework for E-commerce Websites in Developing Countries PDF Author: Layla Hasan
Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en

Book Description
The importance of evaluating the usability of e-commerce websites is wellrecognised and this area has attracted research attention for more than a decade. Nearly all the studies that evaluated the usability of e-commerce websitesemployed either user-based (i.e. user testing) or evaluator-based (i.e. heuristicevaluation) usability evaluation methods; but no research has employed softwarebased(i.e. Google Analytics software) in the evaluation of such sites. Furthermore, the studies which employed user testing and/or heuristic evaluation methods in theevaluation of the usability of e-commerce websites did not offer detail about thebenefits and drawbacks of these methods with respect to the identification ofspecific types of usability problems. This research developed a methodological framework for the usabilityevaluation of e-commerce websites which involved user testing and heuristicevaluation methods together with Google Analytics software. The framework wasdeveloped by comparing the benefits and drawbacks of these methods in terms ofthe specific areas of usability problems that they could or could not identify on ecommercewebsites. The framework involves Google Analytics software as a preliminary step toprovide a quick, easy and cheap indication of general potential usability problemareas on an e-commerce website and its specific pages. Then, the frameworkenables evaluators to choose other methods to provide in-depth detail about specificivproblems on the site. For instance, the framework suggests that user testing is goodfor identifying specific major usability problems related to four areas: navigation, design, the purchasing process and accessibility and customer service, while theheuristic evaluation is good for identifying a large number of specific minorusability problems related to eight areas including: navigation, internal search, thesite architecture, the content, the design, accessibility and customer service, inconsistency and missing capabilities. The framework also suggests that theheuristic evaluation is good at identifying major security and privacy problems. The framework was developed based on an extensive evaluation of theeffectiveness of the three methods in identifying specific usability problems in threecase studies (e-commerce websites) in Jordan. This highlighted the usefulness of themethods and therefore helps e-commerce retailers to determine the usability methodthat best matches their needs. The framework was tested and the results indicated the usefulness of thesuggested framework in raising awareness of usability and usability evaluationmethods among e-commerce retailers in Jordan. This will help them addressusability in the design of their websites, thus helping them to survive, grow andachieve success.

Global e-commerce

Global e-commerce PDF Author: Kenneth L. Kraemer
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139458167
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 45

Book Description
Are the Internet and e-commerce truly revolutionizing business practice? This book explodes the transformation myth by demonstrating that the Internet and e-commerce are in fact being adapted by firms to reinforce their existing relationships with customers, suppliers, and business partners. Detailed case studies of eight countries show that, rather than creating a borderless global economy, e-commerce strongly reflects existing local patterns of commerce, business, and consumer preference, and its impact therefore varies greatly by country. Paradoxically, while e-commerce is increasing the efficiency, effectiveness, and competitiveness of firms, it is also increasing the complexity of their environments as they have to deal with more business partners and also face greater competition from other firms. This incisive analysis of the diffusion and impact of e-business provides academic researchers, graduates, and MBA students with a solid basis for understanding its likely evolution.
