Book Description
During the summers of 1972 and 1973 a creel census and sampling program was carried out for Arctic grayling caught in the Brabant Island area of Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories. Growth in length and weight was similar for both samples but grayling from the present study consistantly averaged less in weight at any given age. In view of the decrease in the average length and age, the encroachment of the modal age to that of first sexual maturity and the susceptibility of grayling to overfishing the spawning segment of the Brabant Island grayling population must be protected. A minimum size limit of 14 inches is proposed for the outlet of Great Slave Lake from 116 deg to 118 deg longtitude as well as for the drainages entering this region.
