L’étude des grandes structures géologiques permet une meilleure compréhension des processus d’alimentation des systèmes aquifères profonds. Dans ce contexte, le fonctionnement hydrodynamique des antiformes du sud de Bordeaux est étudié de manière à établir leur rôle au sein du complexe aquifère nord aquitain. L’interprétation des données issues des prospections effectuées a aboutit à la révision de la géologie du secteur et des conditions de gisement des réservoirs rencontrés. D’un point de vue hydrogéologique, l’examen des modelés et des différentes chroniques piézométriques indiquent que ces antiformes interviennent de façon significative dans la mise en charge des aquifères du complexe nord aquitain. Ensuite, les multiples mesures de terrain ont montré l’existence, dans certains secteurs, d’une relation étroite entre les eaux superficielles et les eaux souterraines (pertes et émergences dans les lits des rivières, dépressions cryptokarstiques). Les mesures isotopiques réalisées viennent appuyer les observations effectuées montrant des traces de tritium dans les zones d’échanges mises en évidence précédemment. D’une manière générale, la structure étudiée apparaît comme une zone de recharge, les temps de résidence étant plus courts sur l’axe de la structure et ce pour différentes nappes. En parallèle, un modèle hydrodynamique régional a été utilisé pour appréhender les écoulements au sein du complexe aquifère nord aquitain et représenter les échanges entre les 6 aquifères composant ce système. Ce modèle a pour fonction de mesurer l’impact à grande échelle de l’implantation de champs captants pour l’alimentation en eau potable au droit de la structure étudiée.

Students of a phenomenon as common but complex as andesite genesis often are overwhelmed by, or overlook, the volume and diversity of relevant information. Thus there is need for periodic overview even in the absence of a dramatic breakthrough which "solves the andesite problem" and even though new ideas and data keep the issues in a state of flux. Thus I have summarized the subject through mid·1980 from my perspective to help clarify the long-standing problem and to identify profitable areas for future research. Overviews are more easily justified than achieved and there are fundamental differences of opinion concerning how to go about them. It is professionally dangerous and therefore uncom mon for single authors, especially those under 35 such as I, to summarize a broad, active field of science in book-length thor oughness. Review articles in journals, multi-authored books, or symposia proceedings appear instead. The single-authored approach is intimidating in scale and can result in loss of thoroughness or authority on individual topics. The alternatives lack scope or integration or both.
