ISBN: 1000900770
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 318

Book Description
Image synthesis across and within medical imaging modalities is an active area of research with broad applications in radiology and radiation oncology. This book covers the principles and methods of medical image synthesis, along with state-of-the-art research. First, various traditional non-learning-based, traditional machine-learning-based, and recent deep-learning-based medical image synthesis methods are reviewed. Second, specific applications of different inter- and intra-modality image synthesis tasks and of synthetic image-aided segmentation and registration are introduced and summarized, listing and highlighting the proposed methods, study designs, and reported performances with the related clinical applications of representative studies. Third, the clinical usages of medical image synthesis, such as treatment planning and image-guided adaptive radiotherapy, are discussed. Last, the limitations and current challenges of various medical synthesis applications are explored, along with future trends and potential solutions to solve these difficulties. The benefits of medical image synthesis have sparked growing interest in a number of advanced clinical applications, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-only radiation therapy treatment planning and positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI scanning. This book will be a comprehensive and exciting resource for undergraduates, graduates, researchers, and practitioners.

Biomedical Image Synthesis and Simulation

Biomedical Image Synthesis and Simulation PDF Author: Ninon Burgos
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128243503
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 676

Book Description
Biomedical Image Synthesis and Simulation: Methods and Applications presents the basic concepts and applications in image-based simulation and synthesis used in medical and biomedical imaging. The first part of the book introduces and describes the simulation and synthesis methods that were developed and successfully used within the last twenty years, from parametric to deep generative models. The second part gives examples of successful applications of these methods. Both parts together form a book that gives the reader insight into the technical background of image synthesis and how it is used, in the particular disciplines of medical and biomedical imaging. The book ends with several perspectives on the best practices to adopt when validating image synthesis approaches, the crucial role that uncertainty quantification plays in medical image synthesis, and research directions that should be worth exploring in the future. Gives state-of-the-art methods in (bio)medical image synthesis Explains the principles (background) of image synthesis methods Presents the main applications of biomedical image synthesis methods

ISBN: 3319685171
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 435

Book Description
In this book, experts from premier institutions across the world with extensive experience in the field clearly and succinctly describe the current and anticipated uses of PET/MRI in oncology. The book also includes detailed presentations of the MRI and PET technologies as they apply to the combined PET/MRI scanners. The applications of PET/MRI in a wide range of oncological settings are well documented, highlighting characteristic findings, advantages of this dual-modality technique, and pitfalls. Whole-body PET/MRI applications and pediatric oncology are discussed separately. In addition, information is provided on PET technology designs and MR hardware for PET/MRI, MR pulse sequences and contrast agents, attenuation and motion correction, the reliability of standardized uptake value measurements, and safety considerations. The balanced presentation of clinical topics and technical aspects will ensure that the book is of wide appeal. It will serve as a reference for specialists in nuclear medicine and radiology and oncologists and will also be of interest for residents in these fields and technologists.

MRI-based Attenuation Correction for PET Reconstruction

MRI-based Attenuation Correction for PET Reconstruction PDF Author: Jeffrey Steinberg
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Attenuation (Physics)
Languages : en
Pages : 84

Book Description
Abstract: In this study we proposed and developed a simple attenuation mapping approach based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the purpose of reconstructing positron emission tomography (PET) images in PET/MRI imaging devices. After experimental development, an in vivo calibration was performed by whole body scanning of five beagles on both a PET/CT and MRI. The attenuation was determined by using an automatic segmentation algorithm to segment regions of air, lung, soft tissue, and bone and assigning them values of 0.002 cm-1, 0.030 cm-1, 0.098 cm-1, and 0.130 cm-1 respectively. The CT attenuated PET images and the MRI attenuated PET images were very similar, and average standardized uptake values (SUV) for most regions of interest differed by 1% - 6%. Also, mean relative differences (MRD) between the images were between 5% and 9% for most regions. The only exception is bone, where the three region MRI attenuated PET images had an SUV 9% less on average than the CT attenuation images, and the MRD averaged 14%. Also, additional segmentation of bone in the four region MRI attenuated PET images reduced the SUV difference to 3% and the MRD to 6%. However, the differences between the CT and 3 region attenuations were much smaller than the differences between CT attenuated and unattenuated PET images, which had average SUVs of 1-37% and MRDs of 10-45%. In particular the spine had an average SUV difference of 29% and MRD of 45%. Therefore, despite the improvements in the four region segmentation, the three region segmentation without delineation of osseous tissues produces high quality images that are sufficient for most expected clinical purposes.

Book Description
This book serves as a reference and comprehensive guide for PET/MR neuroimaging. The field of PET/MR is rapidly evolving, however, there is no standard resource summarizing the vast information and its potential applications. This book will guide neurological molecular imaging applications in both clinical practice and the research setting. Experts from multiple disciplines, including radiologists, researchers, and physicists, have collaborated to bring their knowledge and expertise together. Sections begin by covering general considerations, including public health and economic implications, the physics of PET/MR systems, an overview of hot lab and cyclotron, and radiotracers used in neurologic PET/MRI. There is then coverage of each major disease/systemic category, including dementia and neurodegenerative disease, epilepsy localization, brain tumors, inflammatory and infectious CNS disorders, head and neck imaging, as well as vascular hybrid imaging. Together, we have created a thorough, concise and up-to-date textbook in a unique, user-friendly format. This is an ideal guide for neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, medical physicists, clinical trainees and researchers.
