Excerpt from Illini Poetry, 1918-1923 The poems in the present volume were written during the last five years by the members of the Poetry Society of the University of Illinois. The society was organized in 1918 by miss allene gregory, daughter of the first president of the University, and then an instructor in. English there. The group has usually consisted of some twelve or fifteen. At its fortnightly meetings the new poetry is read and discussed, and once a year there is an open meeting, at which the best work of the society is offered to the public.
