It does contain 4 images with (cartoonish) violence: one image of Idono's avatar girlfriend being pushed against a moving car, one image of (a copy of) a female hacker being torn apart by anti-hack bots, and two images of the adult version of Idono getting a lower leg chopped off (he gets a wooden leg after that), see these 4 images here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TZiHII4RtX5Di8WgApyfCwrv9kdCJrINLS3wxhbQz50/edit?usp=sharing Inspired by Little Nemo in Slumberland, The Little Prince, The Red Balloon, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, I created the graphic novel ‘Idono in Loopy Land’ with a cinematic flow of illustrations about a lonely avatar-boy looking for friends inside a virtual world created by The Leader. This 115 page book (excl. copyright page) is aimed at the 13 - 29 yrs age group. Short synopsis: Theme: absurdity of (virtual) events mirror the unpredictability of life. Moral: be aware of the difference between fact and fake. Plot: The Leader (Mark Zuckerberg with a Pinnochio nose) controls his user profile harvesting platform called Loopy Land. After being warned about an impending hack of his platform, he deploys two platform officers to find the hackers. An avatar is selected by the hackers to play a game with. They ask him what his name is, and he answers “I don’t know”, which they hear as Idono. The platform moves Idono deep into Loopy Land, where he is constantly looking for friends, and -among other things- narrowly escapes a NFT certified digital art collection, finds an avatar girlfriend who gets killed by a speeding emoji, is sucked up by the spiral of Fake, and has his time-line shortened which turns him instantly into an adult. Eventually, the hackers are caught, Idono is booted off-line, and is employed to help teach the Loopies how to see fact from fake. P.S. At one point in the book Idono runs through a virtual gallery, this edition contains an expanded (21 pages in total) version of this virtual gallery, showcasing art by Ucci (Luchini) and Tor Ammo.

Ascorbic Acid in Plant Growth, Development and Stress Tolerance
Author: Mohammad Anwar Hossain
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319740571
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 514
Book Description
Ascorbic acid (AsA), vitamin C, is one of the most abundant water-soluble antioxidant in plants and animals. In plants AsA serves as a major redox buffer and regulates various physiological processes controlling growth, development, and stress tolerance. Recent studies on AsA homeostasis have broadened our understanding of these physiological events. At the mechanistic level, AsA has been shown to participate in numerous metabolic and cell signaling processes, and the dynamic relationship between AsA and reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been well documented. Being a major component of the ascorbate-glutathione (AsA-GSH) cycle, AsA helps to modulate oxidative stress in plants by controlling ROS detoxification alone and in co-operation with glutathione. In contrast to the single pathway responsible for AsA biosynthesis in animals, plants utilize multiple pathways to synthesize AsA, perhaps reflecting the importance of this molecule to plant health. Any fluctuations, increases or decreases, in cellular AsA levels can have profound effects on plant growth and development, as AsA is associated with the regulation of the cell cycle, redox signaling, enzyme function and defense gene expression. Although there has been significant progress made investigating the multiple roles AsA plays in stress tolerance, many aspects of AsA-mediated physiological responses require additional research if AsA metabolism is to be manipulated to enhance stress-tolerance. This book summarizes the roles of AsA that are directly or indirectly involved in the metabolic processes and physiological functions of plants. Key topics include AsA biosynthesis and metabolism, compartmentation and transport, AsA-mediated ROS detoxification, as well as AsA signaling functions in plant growth, development and responses to environmental stresses. The main objective of this volume is therefore to supply comprehensive and up-to-date information for students, scholars and scientists interested in or currently engaged in AsA research.

Indigenous Amazonia, Regional Development and Territorial Dynamics
Author: Walter Leal Filho
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030291537
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 433
Book Description
This book brings together a valuable collection of case studies and conceptual approaches that outline the present state of Amazonia in the 21st century. The many problems are described and the benefits, as well as the achievements of regional development are also discussed. The book focuses on three themes for discussion and recommendations: indigenous peoples, their home (the forest), and the way(s) to protect and sustain their natural home (biodiversity conservation). Using these three themes this volume offers a comprehensive critical review of the facts that have been the reality of Amazonia and fills a gap in the literature. The book will appeal to scholars, professors and practitioners. An outstanding group of experienced researchers and individuals with detailed knowledge of the proposed themes have produced chapters on an array of inter-related issues to demonstrate the current situation and future prospects of Amazonia. Issues investigated and debated include: territorial management; indigenous territoriality and land demarcation; ethnodevelopment; indigenous higher education and capacity building; natural resource appropriation; food security and traditional knowledge; megadevelopmental projects; indigenous acculturation; modernization of Amazonia and its regional integration; anthropogenic interventions; protected areas and conservation; political ecology; postcolonial issues, and the sustainability of Amazonia.
