The General Theory of Homogenization

The General Theory of Homogenization PDF Author: Luc Tartar
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642051952
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 466

Book Description
Homogenization is not about periodicity, or Gamma-convergence, but about understanding which effective equations to use at macroscopic level, knowing which partial differential equations govern mesoscopic levels, without using probabilities (which destroy physical reality); instead, one uses various topologies of weak type, the G-convergence of Sergio Spagnolo, the H-convergence of François Murat and the author, and some responsible for the appearance of nonlocal effects, which many theories in continuum mechanics or physics guessed wrongly. For a better understanding of 20th century science, new mathematical tools must be introduced, like the author’s H-measures, variants by Patrick Gérard, and others yet to be discovered.

Mathematicians of the World, Unite!

Mathematicians of the World, Unite! PDF Author: Guillermo Curbera
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1439865124
Category : Mathematics

Book Description
This vividly illustrated history of the International Congress of Mathematicians- a meeting of mathematicians from around the world held roughly every four years- acts as a visual history of the 25 congresses held between 1897 and 2006, as well as a story of changes in the culture of mathematics over the past century. Because the congress is an int

Data-Driven Controller Design

Data-Driven Controller Design PDF Author: Alexandre Sanfelice Bazanella
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400723008
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 222

Book Description
Data-Based Controller Design presents a comprehensive analysis of data-based control design. It brings together the different data-based design methods that have been presented in the literature since the late 1990’s. To the best knowledge of the author, these data-based design methods have never been collected in a single text, analyzed in depth or compared to each other, and this severely limits their widespread application. In this book these methods will be presented under a common theoretical framework, which fits also a large family of adaptive control methods: the MRAC (Model Reference Adaptive Control) methods. This common theoretical framework has been developed and presented very recently. The book is primarily intended for PhD students and researchers - senior or junior - in control systems. It should serve as teaching material for data-based and adaptive control courses at the graduate level, as well as for reference material for PhD theses. It should also be useful for advanced engineers willing to apply data-based design. As a matter of fact, the concepts in this book are being used, under the author’s supervision, for developing new software products in a automation company. The book will present simulation examples along the text. Practical applications of the concepts and methodologies will be presented in a specific chapter.

High-Performance Computing Using FPGAs

High-Performance Computing Using FPGAs PDF Author: Wim Vanderbauwhede
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461417910
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 798

Book Description
High-Performance Computing using FPGA covers the area of high performance reconfigurable computing (HPRC). This book provides an overview of architectures, tools and applications for High-Performance Reconfigurable Computing (HPRC). FPGAs offer very high I/O bandwidth and fine-grained, custom and flexible parallelism and with the ever-increasing computational needs coupled with the frequency/power wall, the increasing maturity and capabilities of FPGAs, and the advent of multicore processors which has caused the acceptance of parallel computational models. The Part on architectures will introduce different FPGA-based HPC platforms: attached co-processor HPRC architectures such as the CHREC’s Novo-G and EPCC’s Maxwell systems; tightly coupled HRPC architectures, e.g. the Convey hybrid-core computer; reconfigurably networked HPRC architectures, e.g. the QPACE system, and standalone HPRC architectures such as EPFL’s CONFETTI system. The Part on Tools will focus on high-level programming approaches for HPRC, with chapters on C-to-Gate tools (such as Impulse-C, AutoESL, Handel-C, MORA-C++); Graphical tools (MATLAB-Simulink, NI LabVIEW); Domain-specific languages, languages for heterogeneous computing(for example OpenCL, Microsoft’s Kiwi and Alchemy projects). The part on Applications will present case from several application domains where HPRC has been used successfully, such as Bioinformatics and Computational Biology; Financial Computing; Stencil computations; Information retrieval; Lattice QCD; Astrophysics simulations; Weather and climate modeling.

Multispecies Approaches to Fisheries Management Advice

Multispecies Approaches to Fisheries Management Advice PDF Author: M. C. Mercer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : fr
Pages : 188

Book Description
This publication comprises the proceedings of an international workshop convened in St. John's, Nfld, Nov. 26-29, 1979. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the results of recent multispecies research, its applications to management, and to consider future directions for research in this field. A total of 26 papers were presented, including a combination of experience papers, state-of-the-art review, and new scientific findings. Sequential sessions were held on fisheries systems research by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, multispecies considerations in fisheries research and management advice in the ICES area, species interactions in the Northeast Pacific and Northwest Atlantic, fisheries interactions, and applications to fisheries management. The workshop concluded with a substantial discussion of implications of present knowledge for advice to fisheries managers and implications for research program planning. The Workshop Report comprises the Chairman's opening remarks, a report on main elements of discussion in the sessions, and a summarization of workshop conclusions.
