From the horrific to the heroic, cinematic werewolves are metaphors for our savage nature, symbolizing the secret, bestial side of humanity that hides beneath our civilized veneer. Halls of Fame

Halls of Fame PDF Author: David Blevins
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN:
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 324

Book Description
The hall of fame concept, once limited primarily to sports, is growing rapidly as more groups, organizations and associations are building shrines to honor their past, highlight their heroes and display their artifacts and memorabilia. It is estimated that there are at least 500 physical halls of fame throughout the world, a vast majority of them located in the United States. Whatever the actual number, this work documents more than 450 of them in more than 45 states and 15 countries. In addition to the halls of fame that most readers would expect to find, such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the World Golf Hall of Fame, this work includes many more obscure halls of fame, such as the American Furniture Hall of Fame, Burlesque Hall of Fame, Cartoon Hall of Fame, Casino Legends Hall of Fame, Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, Crayola Hall of Fame, Quackery Hall of Fame, and the World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame. The entries provide contact information, including the hall's address and telephone number, and in most instances, its fax number, website and email address, and hours of operation. The entries also alert readers to admission charges and provide a brief history of the hall and a list of notable inductees.

It Came from the 80s!

It Came from the 80s! PDF Author: Francesco Borseti
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 1476666040
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 301

Book Description
From their heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, B movies declined in popularity through the 1970s. As the big Hollywood studios began to make genre films with sky-high budgets, independent producers of low-budget movies could not compete in theaters. The sale of American International Pictures in 1979 and New World Pictures in 1983 marked the end of an era. The emergence of home video in the 1980s marked the beginning of a new phase, as dozens of B movies were produced each year for the small screen, many becoming cult classics of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Through numerous interviews with producers, directors, photographers and actors, this book sheds light on an overlooked corner of film history with behind-the-scenes stories of 28 low-budget favorites from the 1980s.

Mississippi's Uncovered Glory

Mississippi's Uncovered Glory PDF Author: Jerome Gentry
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 146281929X
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 133

Book Description
There are several inspirations and reasons why I decided to write this book. My daughters, Deanna and Mia were two of those inspirations. I was in deep thought one day on how my daughters knew very little of my life growing up and almost nothing of their uncle (Ricky), my deceased brother. Therefore, I decided to tell my story in book form. This book gives you a look inside of my soul of dealing with the lost of my only sibling. This book is also about growing up in Mississippi in the mid 1960’s and the 1970’s. The hope in writing this book is to help dispel any myths about life in Mississippi during those times. Along the way I will resurrect a high school football team from the mid 1970’s that the world may not have known existed by way of its unique assembly. This high school football team reached a height in Mississippi high school football that had never been achieved before. What was more amazing is this team was led by two brothers. One was an undersized defensive lineman who was described by his head coach as “the smallest nose guard in the world at 5’6” 144 pound”. I was that nose guard and the offensive catalyst for this team was my brother, a 6’1” 212 pound devastating and powerful all-American running back.
