The Effects of Grays Harbor Estuary Sediment on the Osmoregulatory Ability of Coho Salmon Smolts, Oncorhynchus Kisutch
Author: David M. Kehoe
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Sedimentation
Languages : en
Pages : 62
Book Description
Flow through bioassays were performed on smolting juvenile coho salmon with sediment from inner areas of Grays Harbor estuary. Previous work has shown that heavy metals have the ability to impair osmoregulatory capacity. Fish were exposed to these sediments for 9 days and then placed in seawater for 24 hours. Dredging activities occurring in the inner portion of Grays Harbor are not believed to be causing impairment of migrating smolts.
