Book Description
Excerpt from Hydraulic Tables, Coefficients, and Formulae for Finding the Discharge of Water From Orifices, Notches, Weirs, Pipes, and Rivers Table VII. Of surface and mean velocities will be found to vary from those generally in use, and to be much more correct, and better suited for practical purposes, particularly as applied to finding the mean velocities in rivers. Book Description
Excerpt from Hydraulic Tables, Coefficients and Formulæ, for Finding the Discharge of Water From Orifices, Notches, Weirs, Pipes, and Rivers Some remarks will be found at page 224 respecting M. Darcy 's new formula for the velocity of water in iron pipes, as given by Morin in his Hydrauliqus. We have, only since those remarks were written, seen the original Mémoire, printed in Tome XV, Mémoires présentés par divers servants d i'académie dee Sciences de l'instz'tut Impén'al de France, Paris, 1858. This Mémoire extends through 263 quarto pages, of which 34 contain tables calculated from the formula. We have not had time to do more than glance through it, but the deduced formula appears to be entirely de rived from the author's experiments. This we con sider, to some extent, objectionable but, however this may be, there can be no doubt that the value Of the coefficient 0, in the formula v z: c s/fi, increases with the inclination, s, as well as with the diameter, 4r, of the pipe; and as M. Darcy's formula makes the value of the multiplier, c, depend alone on the value of r, or 4 r, there appears an omission, in making the coefiicient of friction entirely independent of the hydraulic inclination, and dependent only on the size of the channel. We shall give a few examples, taken at discretion, to show how limited this formula must be in its application. Tables for Calculating the Discharge of Water in Pipes PDF Author: A. E. Silk

Book Description
Excerpt from Tables for Calculating the Discharge of Water in Pipes: For Water-and Power-Supplies These Tables are intended rather for the use of hydraulic. Engineers in designing mains for water and power-supply purposes than for asoiartaining the correct sizes of service and branch pipes; odnsequently the intermediate sizes of pipes of small diarneterihave been omitted. The loss of head in friction has been calculated from the formula given in 572 of Principles of Waterworks Engineering, ' by Tudsbery and Brightmore. All results in these Tables have been ob: tained by using Professor Unwin's Short Logarithmic Tables. In working out estimates of approximate cost of water supply schemes the Author has found it more convenient and axpe ditious to use gallons par hour as the unit, although for the large pipes with high vaccines these Tables only give values to the nearest hundred gllons. If greater accuracy than this is required cubic feet per second may be taken as the unit. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
