Best regards, Charles Nehme HVAC Q & A What is HVAC? HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. It is a system of technology that controls the temperature, humidity, and ventilation of indoor and restricted spaces. How does HVAC work? HVAC systems typically use a combination of heating and cooling elements, fans, and ductwork to control the indoor environment. The specific components and operation of an HVAC system will vary depending on the type of system and the specific needs of the building. What are the different types of HVAC systems? There are many different types of HVAC systems, but some of the most common include: * Central heating and cooling systems * Split systems * Ductless mini-split systems * Heat pumps * Furnaces * Air conditioners How do I choose the right HVAC system for my home? When choosing an HVAC system for your home, there are a number of factors to consider, such as the size of your home, the climate you live in, your budget, and your energy efficiency goals. It is important to consult with a qualified HVAC professional to get the best advice for your specific needs. What is the best way to maintain my HVAC system? HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics

HVAC Design Manual for Hospitals and Clinics PDF Author: ASHRAE (Firm)
Publisher: Ashrae
ISBN: 9781936504398
Category : Clinics
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Health care HVAC systems serve facilities in which the population is uniquely vulnerable and exposed to an elevated risk of health, fire, and safety hazard. These heavily regulated, high-stakes facilities undergo continuous maintenance, verification, inspection, and recertification, typically operate 24/7, and are owner occupied for long life. The HVAC systems in health care facilities must be carefully designed to be installed, operated and maintained in coordination with specialized buildings services, including emergency and normal power, plumbing and medical gas systems, automatic transport, fire protections and a myriad of IT systems, all within a limited building envelope.

Green Schools

Green Schools PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309102863
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 192

Book Description
Evidence has accumulated that shows that the quality of indoor environments can affect the health and productivity of adults and children. One consequence is that a movement has emerged to promote the design of schools that have fewer adverse environmental effects. To examine the potential of such design for improving education, several private organizations asked the NRC to review and assess the health and productivity benefits of green schools. This report provides an analysis of the complexity of making such a determination; and an assessment of the potential human health and performance benefits of improvements in the building envelope, indoor air quality, lighting, and acoustical quality. The report also presents an assessment of the overall building condition and student achievement, and offers an analysis of and recommendations for planning and maintaining green schools including research considerations.

Adaptive Thermal Comfort: Principles and Practice

Adaptive Thermal Comfort: Principles and Practice PDF Author: Fergus Nicol
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136336478
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
The fundamental function of buildings is to provide safe and healthy shelter. For the fortunate they also provide comfort and delight. In the twentieth century comfort became a 'product' produced by machines and run on cheap energy. In a world where fossil fuels are becoming ever scarcer and more expensive, and the climate more extreme, the challenge of designing comfortable buildings today requires a new approach. This timely book is the first in a trilogy from leaders in the field which will provide just that. It explains, in a clear and comprehensible manner, how we stay comfortable by using our bodies, minds, buildings and their systems to adapt to indoor and outdoor conditions which change with the weather and the climate. The book is in two sections. The first introduces the principles on which the theory of adaptive thermal comfort is based. The second explains how to use field studies to measure thermal comfort in practice and to analyze the data gathered. Architects have gradually passed responsibility for building performance to service engineers who are largely trained to see comfort as the ‘product’, designed using simplistic comfort models. The result has contributed to a shift to buildings that use ever more energy. A growing international consensus now calls for low-energy buildings. This means designers must first produce robust, passive structures that provide occupants with many opportunities to make changes to suit their environmental needs. Ventilation using free, natural energy should be preferred and mechanical conditioning only used when the climate demands it. This book outlines the theory of adaptive thermal comfort that is essential to understand and inform such building designs. This book should be required reading for all students, teachers and practitioners of architecture, building engineering and management – for all who have a role in producing, and occupying, twenty-first century adaptive, low-carbon, comfortable buildings.

Review and Assessment of the Health and Productivity Benefits of Green Schools

Review and Assessment of the Health and Productivity Benefits of Green Schools PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309101204
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 79

Book Description
Some educational professionals have suggested that so-called green schools would result in superior performance and increased health for students and teachers. While there is no commonly accepted definition of a green school, there are a number of attributes that such schools appear to have: low cost operations, security, healthy and comfortable, and an environment that enhances learning are among them. To determine the health and productivity benefits of green schools, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, the Barr and Kendall Foundations, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, and the U.S. Green Building Council asked the NRC to examine available studies about the effects of green schools on student learning and teacher productivity. This interim report presents an evaluation of evidence for relationships between various health, learning, and productivity outcomes and five characteristics of green schools: the building envelope, ventilation, lighting, acoustics, and condition. The final report will present evaluations for additional characteristics, a synthesis of the results of all assessments, and promising areas of research.
