Hustler Rave XXX PDF Author: David Caleb Acevedo
Publisher: Lethe Press
ISBN: 1590214994
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 98

Book Description
The meanings of "a hustler" or "a hustle" can be interpreted in many ways, but in gay urban society, the norm is young men providing sexual services to "customers" in exchange for money or other kinds of compensation such as gifts or intoxicants to their "boys." While it's easy for many to dismiss such individuals as scum of the streets (as with female prostitutes), hustlers often come from troubled backgrounds, and it's crucial that we not dehumanize them. As dartboards for the ills of contemporary society (poverty, racism/sexism, homophobia/transphobia, sexual/substance/physical abuse, mental illness, HIV/STDs, etc), young men and women that turn to the streets, alleys, cheap hotels and the Internet for survival are reflections and manifestations of a greater societal collapse. In the pages of Hustler Rave XXX, Latino poets David Caleb Acevedo and Charlie Vázquez present portrait character studies of very human urban hustlers that seek to answer our strange sense of fascination with these young men.

Malady and Genius

Malady and Genius PDF Author: Benigno Trigo
Publisher: SUNY Press
ISBN: 1438461577
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
Analyzes the theme of self-sacrifice in Puerto Rican literature through psychoanalytic theory. Malady and Genius examines the recurring theme of self-sacrifice in Puerto Rican literature during the second half of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first centuries. Interpreting these scenes through the works of Frantz Fanon, Kelly Oliver, and Julia Kristeva, Benigno Trigo focuses on the context of colonialism and explains the meaning of this recurring theme as a mode of survival under a colonial condition that has lasted more than five hundred years in the oldest colony in the world. Trigo engages a number of works in Latino and Puerto Rican studies that have of late reconsidered the value of a psychoanalytic approach to texts and cultural material, and also different methodologies including post-colonial theory, cultural studies, and queer studies.

Book Description
The essence of fantasy is magic and the folklore of women has often dwelt on the innumerable powers they possess. Magic that heals, magic that destroys, magic that saves their community. All these elements and more can be found in the queer women of Hellebore & Rue. These lesbians shape their worlds, their wants and needs, and, most important, their destinies. Here are stories of a greenmage reuniting with her former partner on one last mission in Connie Wilkin's "The Windskimmer"; a shaman calling on the power of the Medicine Buddha to fight demons in Jean Marie Ward's "Personal Demons"; and even an aging school nurse discovering a dark secret about her heritage in Steve Berman's "D is for Delicious." A dozen stories by a dozen talented authors, including Juliet Kemp, Lisa Morton, Ruth Sorrell, C. B. Calsing and other names that promise the reader many wonders.

Book Description
The fate of the city hangs in the balance… The city of Astreiant is full of magic, danger and bureaucracy, and never more so than when something or someone is making guild apprentices disappear without a trace. Philip Eslingen has just been discharged from his mercenary company and as a Leaguer and a stranger, makes an ideal suspect. Fortunately for him, Pointsman Nicolas Rathe from the Point of Hopes station doesn’t agree, but he knows the only way to prove that is to find the missing children and the real culprits. Together they must follow a twisted trail of deceit and magic in a city on the brink of exploding into violence. If they can’t learn to work together, the results could be catastrophic, even fatal. And if they can’t trust each other, the price could be higher than either of them realize

Category : Fiction

Pages : 464

Book Description
The play’s the thing to catch the attention of Astreiant…especially when it includes murder, mystery and magic. It’s ghost-tide in the city and the dead walk the streets, haunting those who meant something to them in life. The theaters of Point of Dreams have a hit season on their hands and Adjunct Point Nicolas Rathe and former mercenary Philip Eslingen have a murder on theirs. Not to mention a heady mix of intrigue, politics and magic, where even the flowers are more than they seem. Added to all of that, the crimelord that Philip worked for has dismissed him from his service and he’s had to move in with Nico. Can Nico and Philip stop the killer before they strike again? And will their relationship survive it if they do? Lambda Literary Award Winner for Speculative Fiction.

From Macho to Mariposa

From Macho to Mariposa PDF Author: Charles Rice-González
Publisher: Lethe Press
ISBN: 159021241X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 296

Book Description
Prepare yourself to dance in a disco in Silver Lake, check out papis in Orchard Beach, cross the border from Guatemala to Mexico on your way to the U.S., see a puro macho bathe in a river in Puerto Rico, make love under a full moon in the Dominican Republic, sigh at a tender moment in an orange grove in Lindsay, visit a panaderia in Kansas, see a full blown birthday party in Juarez, and be seduced by a young artist in the South Bronx. These are some of the stories in this collection of thirty gay Latino writers from around the United States. There are "don't mess with me" divas, alluring bad boys, and sexy teenagers, but also empowered youth for whom being queer is not a question and a family that grows wings on their heads. The infectious rhythms of House music in New York City are adjacent to cumbia in Mexico, next to reggaeton in Puerto Rico, alongside Latin pop in L.A. and merengue in an east coast city. But the spectrum of experiences and emotions that inhabit our days gives these stories dimension and gay/queer Latinos a common ground. The stories are vibrantly varied and clearly connected in this "era of lost signals" in which we live.
