Book Description
A classic of the American Institute for Economic Research, How To Invest Wisely was first written and published in 1947, just as American society was being put back together again following the ghastly upheaval of war and its command economy. Americans regained their ability to control their economic and financial future, and did so in a world of rising prosperity, changing technology, and regained control of family and community. How to Invest Wisely was an immediate hit. New editions appeared every few years between that date all the way until 2010 when it stopped being printed. The first edition was prepared by our founder, Edward C. Harwood. Other writers and editors through the years include Richard W. Radcliffe, Stanley D. Ryals, C. Russell Doane, and Lawrence S. Pratt. This edition adds consultation by Edward Stringham and Peter C. Earle. Rather than attempt an integration between old wisdom and new opportunities, we’ve updated the most recent edition and added the first-edition classic as an appendix. It still remains valuable after all these years. How to Invest Wisely is about investing: the patient and prudent management of financial assets for the long term. It is not about starting or managing your own business or how to “get rich quick.” It is only incidentally about minimizing taxes. The American Institute for Economic Research in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, was founded in 1933 as the first independent voice for sound economics in the United States. Today it publishes ongoing research, hosts educational programs, publishes books, sponsors interns and scholars, and is home to the world-renowned Bastiat Society and the highly respected Sound Money Project. The American Institute for Economic Research is a 501c3 public charity.

How to Invest Money Wisely

How to Invest Money Wisely PDF Author: John Moody
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781440048500
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 196

Book Description
Excerpt from How to Invest Money Wisely In the following chapters the proper methods for investing money in standard securities are outlined and discussed. An attempt has been made to treat this important subject in a practical and concrete way, and thus enable the investor to feel that he is getting something more than a mere statement of principles. The great weakness with most books on investment subjects is that they generalize too much, without presenting practical suggestions for the investor to adopt. The whole plan of this little book is based on the ideas of Diversified Investing which the writer has for many years been making a careful study of in his work as an analyst and adviser for bankers, financial institution and individual investors both at home and abroad. These principles for wisely and intelligently investing money under diversified plans have within the past few years been adopted by numerous institutions and several thousand individual investors with satisfaction and profit. It will of course be recognized that within the limited scope of a small volume of this kind, the subject can be covered only in outline. Book of Value

Book of Value PDF Author: Anurag Sharma
Publisher: Mukti Press
ISBN: 9780988446212
Category : Finance, Personal
Languages : en
Pages : 374

Book Description
This book on value investing is different from most others. It is part philosophy and part practical guide; it presents an integrated approach to analyzing stocks and building strong portfolios. No matter what your level of investing experience and skill, the ideas and methods in this book will help you invest wisely and improve your investment performance. Clearly, analytical ability and technique are necessary for investing wisely. But what is even more important is the ability to regulate emotions, think independently, and see clearly. Yet, controlling emotions and seeing clearly is not easy, as the financial markets are incredibly noisy and ripe with half-baked opinions, innuendo, and cons; they overwhelm the senses, confuse and disorient, and invite all varieties of deceptions and self-deceptions. No lesson on investing is complete, therefore, without showing how our perceptions are liable to be distorted and how to correct those distortions. In fact, analytical techniques are no good if they are not integrated within a well-conceived decision framework that also attends to the facts about how we are wired to perceive the world around us. In this book, I present such a decision framework for investing. In the first part of the book, I take you on an intellectual journey through the ages for a peek into our inner lives; I show that what makes us tick as people also makes us vulnerable as investors. I then leverage this knowledge in the second part of the book to build the decision framework for evaluating investment opportunities in general and stocks in particular. Once the decision framework is firmly in place in the first ten chapters, the rest of the book presents the analytical tools necessary for evaluating stocks and building high-performance portfolios. In essence, this book shows how to cut through the noise in and around you, stabilize and control emotions, frame investment decisions, and correctly apply key analytical techniques in order to build strong stock portfolios. To show the effectiveness of this way of thinking, I end the book with a chapter on the stock portfolio of Warren Buffett (Berkshire Hathaway). Invest wisely.
