First of all, some questions I would like to ask: Are you tired of reading poems that doesn’t make your heart skip a beat, well these ones will. Do you want to take up a book you can never put down until you have absorbed everything? A book, that will make you utter “Man, this is a great book!?” Or a book where there are great poems one after the other? This book speaks mostly about anything and everything you can think of. It will hold you to your seat or make you stand on your feet, which ever excites you. It’s a book of talked about chapters which we normally want to read about ? This book has in it: God—and His love for us. This book speaks about lost, love, betrayal, beauty, romance ecstasy, nature and life! It has short love scenes, the juicy part for sharing with the Mrs. A chapter that you can use to tell a lady how beautiful she is or having just to say how much you love her or him. The words in this book are so put together and parable. This book will also tell you about some life experiences experienced by people like yourself. You ever watched a movie and you’ll watch it again and again? It’s this book, with characters, which leap off the page. There’re poems in here that you’ll take to heart as soon as you read; there’s a poem in this book for everyone and most of all a poetry book, if you purchase, you would feel it was worth spending your money on! The Work of a True Bahamian, written by a Bahamian.

Get Involved!
Author: Kim Williams-Pulfer
Publisher: Rutgers University Press
ISBN: 1978834462
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 145
Book Description
Philanthropy is commonly depicted as a universal practice and is either valued for supporting community transformation or critiqued for limiting social justice. However, dominant definitions and even popular connotations tend to privilege wealthy Western approaches. Using the Caribbean as a rich site of observance and concentrating on the island nation-state of The Bahamas, Get Involved! uncovers the hidden and under-documented activities of “philanthropy from below,” revealing a broader conception of philanthropy and civil society, especially within Black and other historically marginalized populations. Kim Williams-Pulfer draws on narrative analysis from enslavement to the current post-post-colonial moment, depicting the repertoires and practices of primarily Afro-Bahamians through the stories emerging from history (including the transnational observations of Zora Neale Hurston, social movements, and political and social institution building), the arts (from Junkanoo, literature, and visual practices), to the lived experiences of contemporary civil society leaders. Get Involved! shows the long history and continued significance of civil society and philanthropic engagement in The Bahamas, the circum-Caribbean, and the wider African Diaspora. Junkanoo is the national cultural festival of The Bahamas. It fosters a sense of community pride, identity, companionship, spirituality and unity. Funky Nassau
Author: Timothy Rommen
Publisher: Univ of California Press
ISBN: 0520948750
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 332
Book Description
This book examines the role music has played in the formation of the political and national identity of the Bahamas. Timothy Rommen analyzes Bahamian musical life as it has been influenced and shaped by the islands’ location between the United States and the rest of the Caribbean; tourism; and Bahamian colonial and postcolonial history. Focusing on popular music in the second half of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, in particular rake-n-scrape and Junkanoo, Rommen finds a Bahamian music that has remained culturally rooted in the local even as it has undergone major transformations. Highlighting the ways entertainers have represented themselves to Bahamians and to tourists, Funky Nassau illustrates the shifting terrain that musicians navigated during the rapid growth of tourism and in the aftermath of independence.
