Compact Heat Exchangers and Enhancement Technology for the Process Industries

Compact Heat Exchangers and Enhancement Technology for the Process Industries PDF Author: R. K. Shah
Publisher: Begell House Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
The drive to minimize capital investment and improve the energy efficiency of process industry plants has led to a reassessment of the desirability and practicality of incorporating compact heat exchangers (CHEs) and heat transfer enhancement technology into process plants. This volume collects papers presented at the International Conference on Compact Heat Exchangers for the Process Industries, whose objectives were to exploit the existing forms of the CHEs and enhancement technology with their potential use and benefits, to identify new forms of the CHEs and enhancement technology, and to identify and discuss barriers and critical issues preventing the broader use of CHEs and enhancement technology.

Physics of Gas-Liquid Flows

Physics of Gas-Liquid Flows PDF Author: Thomas J. Hanratty
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1107512972
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 359

Book Description
Presenting tools for understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows based on the ways large scale behaviour relates to small scale interactions, this text is ideal for engineers seeking to enhance the safety and efficiency of natural gas pipelines, water-cooled nuclear reactors, absorbers, distillation columns and gas lift pumps. The review of advanced concepts in fluid mechanics enables both graduate students and practising engineers to tackle the scientific literature and engage in advanced research. It focuses on gas-liquid flow in pipes as a simple system with meaningful experimental data. This unified theory develops design equations for predicting drop size, frictional pressure losses and slug frequency, which can be used to determine flow regimes, the effects of pipe diameter, liquid viscosity and gas density. It describes the effect of wavy boundaries and temporal oscillations on turbulent flows, and explains transition between phases, which is key to understanding the behaviour of gas-liquid flows.

Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer

Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer PDF Author: Sadik KakaƧ
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400968485
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 459

Book Description
Over the past two decades, two-phase flow and heat transfer problems associated with two-phase phenomena have been a challenge to many investigators. Two-phase flow applications are found in a wide range of engineering systems, such as nuclear and conventional power plants, evaporators of refrigeration systems and a wide vari ety of evaporative and condensive heat exchangers in the chemical industry. This publication is based on the invited lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on the Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer. The Horkshop was attended by more than 50 leading scientists and practicing engineers who work actively on two-phase flow and heat transfer research and applications in dif ferent sectors (academia, government, industry) of member countries of NATO. Some scientific leaders and experts on the subject matter from the non-NATO countries were also invited. They convened to discuss the state-of-the-art in two-phase flow and heat transfer and formulated recommendations for future research directions. To achieve these goals, invited key papers and a limited number of contributions were presented and discussed. The specific aspects of the subject were treated in depth in the panel sessions, and the unresolved problems identified. Suitable as a practical reference, these volumes incorporate a systematic approach to two-phase flow analysis.

Encyclopedia Of Two-phase Heat Transfer And Flow Ii: Special Topics And Applications (A 4-volume Set)

Encyclopedia Of Two-phase Heat Transfer And Flow Ii: Special Topics And Applications (A 4-volume Set) PDF Author: John R Thome

Book Description
The aim of the two-set series is to present a very detailed and up-to-date reference for researchers and practicing engineers in the fields of mechanical, refrigeration, chemical, nuclear and electronics engineering on the important topic of two-phase heat transfer and two-phase flow. The scope of the first set of 4 volumes presents the fundamentals of the two-phase flows and heat transfer mechanisms, and describes in detail the most important prediction methods, while the scope of the second set of 4 volumes presents numerous special topics and numerous applications, also including numerical simulation methods.Practicing engineers will find extensive coverage to applications involving: multi-microchannel evaporator cold plates for electronics cooling, boiling on enhanced tubes and tube bundles, flow pattern based methods for predicting boiling and condensation inside horizontal tubes, pressure drop methods for singularies (U-bends and contractions), boiling in multiport tubes, and boiling and condensation in plate heat exchangers. All of these chapters include the latest methods for predicting not only local heat transfer coefficients but also pressure drops.Professors and students will find this 'Encyclopedia of Two-Phase Heat Transfer and Flow' particularly exciting, as it contains authored books and thorough state-of-the-art reviews on many basic and special topics, such as numerical modeling of two-phase heat transfer and adiabatic bubbly and slug flows, the unified annular flow boiling model, flow pattern maps, condensation and boiling theories, new emerging topics, etc.

Two-phase Flow and Pressure Drop in Flow Passages of Compact Heat Exchangers

Two-phase Flow and Pressure Drop in Flow Passages of Compact Heat Exchangers PDF Author:

Book Description
Two-phase flow experiments were performed with air/water mixtures in a small rectangular channel measuring 9.52 x 1.59 mm (aspects ratio equal to 6), for applications to compact heat exchangers. Pressure drop and flow pattern definition data were obtained over a large range of mass qualities (0.0002 to 1), and in the case of flow pattern data, a large range of mass fluxes (50 to 2,000 kg/m2s). A flow pattern map, based on visual observations and photographs of the flow patterns, is presented and compared with a map developed for a rectangular channel of the same aspect ratio but with dimensions twice those of the test channel, and with a map developed for a circular tube with the same hydraulic diameter of 3 mm. Pressure drop data are presented as a function of both mass quality and Martinelli parameter and are compared with state-of-the-art correlations and a modified Chisholm correlation. 13 refs.
