Book Description
Energy efficiency is the goal of many homeowners and businesses. Energy savings can be achieved through a variety of measures, from simple changes in lifestyle to larger investments in energy-efficient products. One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce energy costs is to reduce the amount of energy used. Homeowners can do this by taking simple steps such as turning off lights and appliances when not in use, using natural light whenever possible, and using energy-efficient light bulbs. Businesses can also reduce energy use by installing energy-efficient lighting, heating and cooling systems, and water-saving devices. Installing energy-efficient products can also help reduce energy costs. Many appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes washers, now come with energy-efficient models that use less energy than older models. Installing energy-efficient windows and doors can also help improve a home’s energy efficiency. Finally, investing in renewable energy sources such as solar panels or wind turbines can also help reduce energy costs. Renewable energy sources can provide clean, renewable power to homes and businesses, reducing the need to rely on traditional energy sources. By taking simple steps to reduce energy use and investing in energy-efficient products, homeowners and businesses can make significant energy savings. Over time, these energy savings can add up to significant long-term savings and help protect the environment.

House Rating Schemes

House Rating Schemes PDF Author: Maria Kordjamshidi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642157904
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 149

Book Description
"House Rating Schemes" provides information to students, architects and researchers in the field of the built environment. It reviews current House Rating Schemes (HRS) used in different countries and investigates how these schemes assess the thermal performance of a house. It challenges the way that these schemes assess building energy efficiency and their inability to evaluate free running buildings which do not need an energy load for heating and cooling indoor environments. Finally, the book proposes a new index and method for HRS in which the efficiency of a house design can be evaluated with reference to its thermal performance in both free running and conditioned operation modes. The book deals with various approaches and methods for rating buildings on the basis of different indexes, with implications for both energy efficiency and thermal comfort. It also guides readers through a computer simulation program for developing a rating system that evaluates and ranks building energy efficiency.

The Warm Front Scheme

The Warm Front Scheme PDF Author: Great Britain. National Audit Office
Publisher: The Stationery Office
ISBN: 9780102954531
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 40

Book Description
The Department of Energy and Climate Change's Warm Front Scheme to tackle fuel poverty in England helped to improve the energy efficiency of over 635,000 households between June 2005 and March 2008. There were, however, 1.9 million vulnerable households in 2006, so this rate of progress will still leave many in fuel poverty in 2010. The installation of central heating systems and insulation in homes has helped vulnerable. 86 per cent of assisted households are either highly satisfied or satisfied with the work done. The delivery of the Scheme has been largely effective but it has been impaired by problems in Scheme design. The Government's use of proxy measures, such as benefit entitlement, to determine who is eligible for Scheme grants is a pragmatic approach, but it has resulted in inefficient targeting of resources. Fifty-seven per cent of vulnerable households in fuel poverty do not claim the relevant benefits to qualify for the Scheme. And nearly 75 per cent of households who would qualify are not necessarily in fuel poverty. In addition, between June 2005 and March 2008 the Scheme has given £34 million in grants to households whose properties were already comparatively energy efficient. Gas and oil boiler replacement costs are at the higher end of the range, partly because of Scheme specifications. The grant available has not increased since 2005 and more applicants (around 25 per cent in 2007-08) are having to contribute towards the cost of the work carried out. Some eligible applicants are therefore withdrawing from the Scheme, or not progressing their applications (around 20,400 households in total as of October 2008).
