MEMOIRS OF THE DARK CHOCOLATE YEARS Part 1 THE BEGINNING

MEMOIRS OF THE DARK CHOCOLATE YEARS Part 1 THE BEGINNING PDF Author: LABRETTA SIMMONS
Publisher: Labretta Simmons
ISBN:
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Take a heartfelt journey with Lorina Simmons, otherwise known as Chocolate, who was raised in one of the roughest housing projects in Queens, New York, and see her life through her words. She bares her struggles and her painful, poverty-stricken life, in which she suffered abandonment and many phases of abuse. After being raised by her grandmother and her drug-addicted mother, she landed in the foster care system. Tossed from ghetto to ghetto, her life became a series of battles, which included promiscuity, petty crimes, drugs, violence, survival, education, and love. Will self-destruction be the outcome for young Chocolate for years to come, especially when she met Maurice Sparks, a handsome red bone with ulterior motives, or will C.J. (Corey Jeppard), another stunning man and veteran be the key to life-altering decisions? Will a world full of deceit and betrayal make or break her? Through turmoil, however, music became her guide and sanctuary, as she continued to survive in the belly of the beast, known as the streets.

Upper Necaxa Totonac Dictionary

Upper Necaxa Totonac Dictionary PDF Author: David Beck
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110238233
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 872

Book Description
The Upper Necaxa Totonac Dictionary represents to-date the most extensive collection of lexical material for any member of the Totonac-Tepehua family and the only such record for this previously-undescribed polysynthetic language, currently spoken in two principal dialects by some 3,400 people, mainly adults, in the Sierra Norte of Puebla State, Mexico. As well as a short grammatical sketch, the dictionary comprises 9,000 lexical entries, including numerous fixed expressions, idioms, and ideophones; each lexical entry is accompanied by part-of-speech information and phonetic transcriptions as well as, where appropriate, dialectal information, grammatical notes (including plurals and classifiers for nouns), literal morpheme-by-morpheme glosses, example sentences, and cross-references to derived forms and semantically-related words. The accompanying DVD includes additional illustrative sentences, audio recordings of headwords and examples, and interlinear glosses for many of the sentences included in lexical entries. This book is the first Totonacan dictionary to be structured for the academic linguist, with special attention paid to the morphological structure of words and the organization of the Totonacan lexicon. Glosses are constructed so as to reflect the underlying complement-structure of words, with careful indication of the number of arguments required by particular lexical items, and all verbs are classified by dynamicity and valency. This dictionary is of interest to linguists working on American indigenous languages, as well as those concerned with the structure of morphologically complex words and the role of derivation in the lexicon of polysynthetic languages. It is also of use to historical linguists and Mesoamericanists interested in the reconstruction of the pre-Columbian history and ethnogeography of Mexico.

Book Description
With its unparalleled coverage of English slang of all types (from 18th-century cant to contemporary gay slang), and its uncluttered editorial apparatus, Cassell's Dictionary of Slang was warmly received when its first edition appeared in 1998. 'Brilliant.' said Mark Lawson on BBC2's The Late Review; 'This is a terrific piece of work - learned, entertaining, funny, stimulating' said Jonathan Meades in The Evening Standard. But now the world's best single-volume dictionary of English slang is about to get even better. Jonathon Green has spent the last seven years on a vast project: to research in depth the English slang vocabulary and to hunt down and record written instances of the use of as many slang words as possible. This has entailed trawling through more than 4000 books - plus song lyrics, TV and movie scripts, and many newspapers and magazines - for relevant material. The research has thrown up some fascinating results

Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 198

Book Description
All it takes is one murder to change a million lives, and that's exactly what happens to Kasheef Williams on a cold, black Friday. After a reunion with an old friend goes wrong in a Long Island night club, Kasheef is forced to protect himself by any means necessary. The only problem is that prying eyes see everything. Those eyes belong to Alija Bell. After walking in on a situation she was never meant to see, she runs; but Kasheef sees her face, and he tells her that it's best for her to get temporary amnesia. Afraid for her life and the safety of her daughter, she keeps her mouth shut—but when a tape of the murder surfaces, the only face that's visible is Alija's. Now the police are looking for their eye witness, and Kasheef has to get to Alija before her day comes to testify against him in court. In this dramatic, hood-savvy tale, things aren't always as they seem. Somebody holds the ticket to the jury's verdict. Lies and truth collide. Everyone has a different angle, but the only question is, who has the most influence over Kasheef's fate?
