He then transferred his membership to Immanuel Presbyterian church, with which he was actively identified for the rest of his life. He took active and helpful part in organizing the Young Men's Christian Association in 1857, and helped to place the society upon a substantial financial basis, serving as vice president and acting as president of the organization.
