Excerpt from Historia de la Literatura Española, Vol. 4 Poco pudo, pues la nueva Academia aprovecharse de los trabajos de sus predecesores, y así es que para en contrar algo de provecho hubo de retroceder hasta Le brija y sus editores; mas los académicos trabajaron con mucho teson y diligencia, dando a luz entre los anos de 4726 y 4739 su Diccionario, compuesto de seis tomos en folio; obra que en general les honra, pues aunque algunas veces peca por falta de madura reflexion y rec to juicio, omitiéndose en ella no pocas voces que de bieron incluirse, é introduciéndose indebidamente otras, que muchas veces no se apoyan en testimonios satisfac torios; con todo, las definiciones son en su mayor parte buenas, las etimologias (de que no cuidaron gran cosa los redactores) respetables, y las citas extensas y Opor tunas, de manera que cuantos trabajos se habian hecho hasta entonces en este género se quedaban muy atrás del nuevo Diccionarzo.
