This guide is meant to give travelers of Highway 395, whether it be by car, RV or motorcycle, those planning vacations in areas along 395, and others interested in what this iconic highway has to offer, an assortment of short hikes and walks and other nearby diversions to serve as a starting point for their adventures. By giving enough information to introduce some of the more easily accessible countryside, my goal is to get people out of their cars and hurried mindsets, and give them a reason to 'stop and smell the pavement'! Hopefully this will also serve the purpose of, as Elmer Fudd would say, "getting a wittle west and wewaxation", and maybe a story or two to tell once the adventure is over.These are not the only stops a traveler can make but I believe they are a good representation of what 395 has to offer in the way of history, geography and wildlife viewing opportunities. I encourage all who adventure along the highway to stop and explore other areas that they find interesting. To quote Buddha, "It is better to travel well than to arrive".This guide tries to explore stops and features along the highway that are of likely interest to the passing motorist. Historic stops, if there is a trail or area large enough to wander around in, a couple of National Parks within a reasonable distance of the highway, obvious geographic phenomena that just demand your attention, and stops for possible wildlife sightings are the main focus of these guides.
