Physics Lab Manual

Physics Lab Manual PDF Author: David Loyd
Publisher: Cengage Learning
ISBN: 0495114529
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 513

Book Description
Ideal for use with any introductory physics text, Loyd's PHYSICS LABORATORY MANUAL is suitable for either calculus- or algebra/trigonometry-based physics courses. Designed to help students develop their intuitive abilities in physics, the third edition has been updated to take advantage of modern equipment realities and to incorporate the latest in physics education research. In each lab, author David Loyd emphasizes conceptual understanding and includes a thorough discussion of physical theory to help students see the connection between the lab and the lecture. Each lab includes a set of pre-lab exercises, and many labs give students hands-on experience with statistical analysis. Equipment requirements are kept at a minimum to allow for maximum flexibility and to make the most of pre-existing lab equipment. For instructors interested in using some of Loyd's experiments, a customized lab manual is another option available through the Cengage Learning Custom Solutions program. Now, you can select specific experiments from Loyd's PHYSICS LABORATORY MANUAL, include your own original lab experiments, and create one affordable bound book. Contact your Cengage Learning representative for more information on our Custom Solutions program. Basic Physics

Basic Physics PDF Author: Kenneth W Ford
Publisher: World Scientific Publishing Company
ISBN: 9813208031
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 853

Book Description
This reissued version of the classic text Basic Physics will help teachers at both the high-school and college levels gain new insights into, and deeper understanding of, many topics in both classical and modern physics that are commonly taught in introductory physics courses. All of the original book is included with new content added. Short sections of the previous book (174 in number) are labeled 'Features.' These Features are highlighted in the book, set forth in a separate Table of Contents, and separately indexed. Many teachers will value this book as a personal reference during a teaching year as various topics are addressed. Ford's discussions of the history and meaning of topics from Newton's mechanics to Feynman's diagrams, although written first in 1968, have beautifully withstood the test of time and are fully relevant to 21st-century physics teaching.

Book Description
Excerpt from High School Laboratory Manual of Physics In making this Manual two main objects have been kept in view. First, the teaching of Physics by the Inductive Method, that is, the presenting of a logically arranged course of experimental work that shall cover; the ground of Elementary Physics. Second, the providing of sufficient laboratory work to meet the entrance requirements of any college in the country. The authors are not so visionary as to suppose that boys and girls can, unaided, rediscover the laws of Physics, but we know that, if sufficiently careful directions are given to pupils in the performance of experiments, and definite instruction is given them as to the manner of studying results obtained, they will learn from Nature first-hand many of her great laws. And these will be much more strongly impressed than when learned from a text-book or from the teacher's experiments. From the generalizations made by the pupils, deductions can be made and then tested for their validity, thus keeping he pupil on the borderland between inductions and deductions, a place where the greatest mental development is obtained. This plan is the underlying idea of science study, and the acquiring of this scientific method is of far more importance than the mere gleaning of facts. The facts may in time be forgotten, but the method of mind operation will remain as part of the character developed. Careful manipulation, accurate observation of phenomena, and logical deductions or generalizations should be the three steps kept in mind. The notes written by the pupils should be neat, terse, and in good English, and should be logically arranged as shown in the steps mentioned above. Insist on these three elements of written work.
