High Resolution Gas Phase Infrared Absorption Spectra of Simple Gases

High Resolution Gas Phase Infrared Absorption Spectra of Simple Gases PDF Author: John Overend
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 13

Book Description
A study has been made of the infrared spectra of simple gases under conditions of very high resolution. Most of the measurements have been made in the spectral region between 2000-400/cm. The molecules which have been studied are CS2, ethylene, methylfluoride and formaldehyde-d2. The spectra have been assigned in considerable detail and the wavenumbers of the assigned lines have been analyzed to yield fundamental data on the structure of these molecules. It appears that the results of this study will have not only fundamental importance but also immediate practical value since the infrared spectra are useful for the determination of concentrations of atmospheric pollutants. Spectroscopy of the earth's Atmosphere and interstellar Medium

Spectroscopy of the earth's Atmosphere and interstellar Medium PDF Author: K.N. Rao
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0323146759
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 539

Book Description
Spectroscopy of the Earth's Atmosphere and Interstellar Medium focuses on the characteristics of the electromagnetic spectrum of the Earth's atmosphere in the far-infrared and microwave regions. It discusses the modes of observation in field measurements and reviews the two techniques used in the spectral region. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the effect of water-vapor absorption, followed by a discussion on the two frequently used method for deriving atmospheric parameters from high-resolution infrared atmospheric spectra, namely, the equivalent width (EW) technique and the nonlinear least-square fitting (NLSF). Other chapters consider the mechanisms by which interstellar clouds are formed. In addition, the book explores the composition of interstellar clouds, ion-molecule reactions, and the formation of stars. This book will be useful to anyone involved in, or interested in learning more about the field of atmospheric spectroscopy, including scientists, aeronomers, astronomers, astrophysicists, and students.

High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures

High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures PDF Author: Mark P. Esplin
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Atmospheric carbon dioxide
Languages : en
Pages : 72

Book Description
Although both Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide are minor constituents of the terrestrial atmosphere, they play leading roles in several current atmospheric problems. Both CO2 and N2O are greenhouse gases, and while it is known that the atmospheric concentrations of both gases is increasing, the impact of these trends on global temperature is not yet adequately understood. In addition to being a greenhouse gas, N2O plays an indirect part in ozone chemistry. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. These observations can then be used to characterize the shape of the molecular potential function at increasing distances from the minimum of the potential function. The infrared spectra of linear molecules like CO2 and N2O are composed of vibration bands made up of a number of nearly equally spaced rotation lines. A Fourier Spectrometer is ideally suited to the study of high temperature gases since it meets both of these needs by providing high resolution over a wide spectral region.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectra

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectra PDF Author: John R. Ferraro
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323140173
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy: Applications to Chemical Systems presents the chemical applications of the Fourier transform interferometry (FT-IR). The book contains discussions on the applications of FT-IR in the fields of chromatography FT-IR, polymers and biological macromolecules, emission spectroscopy, matrix isolation, high-pressure interferometry, and far infrared interferometry. The final chapter is devoted to the presentation of the use of FT-IR in solving national technical problems such as air pollution, space exploration, and energy related subjects. Research and analytical chemists will find the book insightful.

Tables of Wavenumbers for the Calibration of Infrared Spectrometers

Tables of Wavenumbers for the Calibration of Infrared Spectrometers PDF Author: A.R.H. Cole
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 148315310X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
Tables of Wavenumbers for the Calibration of Infrared Spectrometers, Second Edition is a compilation of tables of wavenumber values for the calibration of infrared spectrometers. It makes the best use of high resolution results and integrates the far infrared data with the higher frequency values. This book is organized in two parts, one for high to medium-resolution spectrometers used by physical chemists and physicists, and the other for medium to low-resolution instruments employed by organic and inorganic chemists. The first part includes tables of wavenumber of infrared absorption lines in spectra of gaseous molecules as well as procedures for using the tables, including the calibration-curve method, the method of overlapping orders (superposition method), and atomic line method. The calibration tables are illustrated by infrared spectra obtained under a variety of conditions. The second part includes vapor, liquid, and solid phase calibrants for small spectrometers. This monograph will be a valuable resource for physicists, chemists, and spectroscopists.

Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest (1981)

Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest (1981) PDF Author: Aaron Goldman
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351363050
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 266

Book Description
The handbook presents spectra to be utilized for the detection and measurement of new constituents in the earth's atmosphere and to obtain data for common minor species with large gas amounts in the absorption cell (such as CH/sub 4/ and N/sub 2/O). These results can be applied in the identification of absorption features in atmospheric spectra determined over long atmospheric paths. The spectra were recorded with Fourier Transform Spectrometers which are more precise than grating spectrometers. Each molecule spectrum was plotted on two scales: a condensed scale covering the range from 75 to 300/cm in one frame, and an expanded view covering 20 or 10/cm per frame. Each plot contains the name of the molecule, chemical formula, the gas pressure, cell length, and estimated resolution of the spectrum.

High Resolution Studies in the Far Infrared

High Resolution Studies in the Far Infrared PDF Author: Dean W. Robinson

Pages : 12

Book Description
A study was made of the far infrared spectra at liquid helium temperatures. At low temperatures rotational modes of vibrations become librational. A spherical environment was produced by condensing water and hydrogen fluoride in rare gas matrices. Pure crystals of polyatomic molecules such as hydrogen sulfide and iodide were studied. Solid solutions of water and deuterium oxide in rare gases were studied. Marked improvements were accomplished in a far infrared detector which operates at 1.5 Kelvin and in the construction of a low temperature infrared cell. (Author).
