Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy and Surface Vibrations

Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy and Surface Vibrations PDF Author: H. Ibach
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483259455
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 379

Book Description
Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy and Surface Vibrations is devoted to electron energy loss spectroscopy as a probe of the crystal surface. Electrons with energy in the range of a few electron volts sample only a few atomic layers. As they approach or exit from the crystal, they interact with the vibrational modes of the crystal surface, or possibly with other elementary excitations localized there. The energy spectrum of electrons back-reflected from the surface is thus a rich source of information on its dynamics. The book opens with a detailed analysis of the physics that controls the operation of the monochromator, which is the core of the experimental apparatus. Separate chapters follow on the interaction of electrons with vibrational modes of the surface region and with other elementary excitations in the vicinity; the lattice dynamics of clean and adsorbate-covered surfaces, with emphasis on those features of particular relevance to surface vibrational spectroscopy; and selected applications vibration spectroscopy in surface physics and chemistry.

Vibrations At Surfaces 1985

Vibrations At Surfaces 1985 PDF Author: N.V. Richardson
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 008096060X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 714

Book Description
This volume contains almost all of the 79 papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Vibrations at Surfaces. The proceedings reflect the significant advances that have been made in the field of surface vibrations since the previous conference on the topic held in 1982. The presented papers showed a tendency of development in new directions, particularly in relation to dynamical effects occurring in atom and molecule-surface interactions. These proceedings cover the field of surface vibrational spectroscopy in such a way as to make the book an asset to those involved in both experimental and theoretical work in this field.

Vibrations at Surfaces

Pages : 761

Book Description
Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis 14: Vibrations at Surfaces documents the proceedings of the third International Conference on ""Vibrations at Surfaces"" held at Asilomar, California, from September 1-4, 1982. Almost all of the 102 papers presented at the meeting are published in this volume. The topics chosen for the eight sessions held over a span of three days were: (I) Vibrational Frequency Shifts and Widths-Lateral Interactions; (II) Dynamical Processes at Surfaces; (III) and (IV) Electron Loss Spectroscopy; (V) Raman and Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering; (VI) Infrared Absorption and Reflection Spectroscopy; (VII) Beam Surface Scattering Surface Phonons; (VIII) Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy - Surface Enhanced Raman Studies in Electrochemistry. In addition, C. B. Duke presented an introductory keynote surveying progress in the field since the last meeting. In the final session H. Ibach and T. Grimley presented conference overviews and future prospects for the field from an experimental and theoretical perspective. Also included in the Proceedings are four literature surveys on Energy Loss, Inelastic Tunneling, Infrared and Raman (SERS) papers.

Book Description
This paper involved the use of the experimental techniques thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and theoretical developments in the analysis of adsorbate vibrations to study the chemistry of a wide range of nitrogen containing hydrocarbons on transition metal surfaces. Fifteen technical reports resulted from the research. Keywords: Cyanogen, Transition metals, Vibrations of Adsorbates, Surface defects.

Rich Quasiparticle Properties In Layered Graphene-related Systems

Rich Quasiparticle Properties In Layered Graphene-related Systems PDF Author: Ming-fa Lin
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 981127780X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 445

Book Description
This comprehensive book delves into the fascinating world of quasiparticle properties of graphene-related materials. The authors thoroughly explore the intricate effects of intrinsic and extrinsic interactions on the material's properties, while unifying the single-particle and many-particle properties through the development of a theoretical framework. The book covers a wide range of research topics, including long-range Coulomb interactions, dynamic charge density waves, Friedel oscillations and plasmon excitations, as well as optical reflection and transmission spectra of thin films. Also it highlights the crucial roles of inelastic Coulomb scattering and optical scattering in the quasiparticle properties of layered systems, and the impact of crystal symmetry, number of layers, and stacking configuration on their uniqueness. Furthermore, the authors explore the topological properties of quasiparticles, including 2D time-reversal-symmetry protected topological insulators with quantum spin Hall effect, and rhombohedral graphite with Dirac nodal lines. Meanwhile, the book examines the gate potential application for creating topological localized states and shows topological invariants of 2D Dirac fermions, and binary Z2 topological invariants under chiral symmetry. The calculated results are consistent with the present experimental observations, establishing it as a valuable resource for individuals interested in the quasiparticle properties of novel materials.
