Book Description
Excerpt from Hidden Heroes of the RockiesOne of these boys, Isaac K. Russell, after a series of adventures as an American volunteer in the Philippines, returned to enter the field of journalism. In this capacity he was working when Senator William A. Clark of Montana built his railroad connecting Salt Lake City with Los Angeles. On its completion the builder decided to dedicate his new road, by giving a free Pullman trip to all of the old pioneers who had helped to blaze the hard trail through sage and sand over which the rails had now been laid.At that time the question, what white man had first dared to take this desert trail, became a burning one. Mr. Russel], assigned the interesting work of writing up the excursion for the newspaper he represented, set out earnestly to gather from the best sources at hand this tale of the trail blazing through our Southwest.Hardly had his account come from the press before there appeared at his door an old mountaineer clad in buckskin, odorous of a thousand bonfires. This veteran of the Rockies came to make his protest; the story, be asserted.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
