Book Description
Excerpt from Herpetological Type-Specimens in the University of Illinois, Museum of Natural History, 1964 The Museum of Natural History of the University of Illinois has in its herpetological collection a relatively large number of type specimens, most of which are Mexican in geographic origin. Knowl edge oi the present location of holotype specimens is a worker's necessity, and for this reason as' well as to record the entire present content of the Museum's herpetological type-collection, this report has been prepared, in conformance with the behest of the 1961 Code of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (art. 72d4). In general, the form adopted is that of Peters' similar report (1952, Occ. Papers Mus. Univ. Mich, no. 539) on the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology's herpetological type-collection. Since most of the specimens formerly bore numbers in other institutional or private collections, however, it has been regarded as essential to cite these numbers; they follow parenthetically immediately after the uimn H number.
