The elephant diet consists of plant materials and cultivated crops of sugarcane and bananas. An adult will consume 300-400 lbs of food per day. Elephants mate during the rainy season and the female gives birth to one calf after 22 months. Newborn babies weigh 200-250 lbs and have no muscle tone in their trunks. It takes several months for a baby to gain control of its trunk.
