A Study of the Perceptions of Access to Health Care of Rural Idaho Consumers

A Study of the Perceptions of Access to Health Care of Rural Idaho Consumers PDF Author: Joann Rulien
Publisher:

Category : Health services accessibility

Pages : 116

Book Description
The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of access to health care of rural Idaho consumers. The researcher used Imogene King's Theory of Goal Attainment and General Systems model as a framework to guide this qualitative study. Nine participants from three rural Idaho communities were involved in the study. The results of the study included findings that identified barriers to health care access in rural areas such as travel distance and time to reach health care services, as well as weather and road conditions that hamper such travel. Also identified were issues of time away from employment to utilize health care services and health insurance programs that stipulate the use of preferred providers when such providers are not available to rural residents. The results of this research can aid nurses in becoming culturally competent in the assessment of patients living in the rural culture of Idaho.
