Harmonizing Global Education

Harmonizing Global Education PDF Author: Jon Baggaley
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136730524
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Distance education (DE) offers ways to reach the many people around the world who lack access to education and training by other means. International DE methods, however, are fragmented, and distance educators have often abandoned new technologies before giving them a chance to develop. As a result, many current DE tools and techniques are incompatible with the needs and cultures of different global regions. With the goal of designing efficient, relevant DE for worldwide audiences, Harmonizing Global Education invites scholars and practitioners to consider the historic development of technology-based education and communication studies, going back further in the literature than is often assumed necessary. The book examines a wide range of historical ideas capable of shaping modern DE, including the Luddite Revolt among British textiles workers in 1811-12, the evolution of cubist art and musical aesthetics, and the visionary advances of early twentieth-century Soviet multimedia specialists. The author urges an awareness of previous generations of communications studies, and shows how audience research relating to traditional media can be relevant in the design of current internet-based and social media approaches. Today's open universities have grown from these earlier historical efforts, and the future success of open and distance education depends on learning from the successes and the failures of the past.

The Art of Spiritual Harmony

The Art of Spiritual Harmony PDF Author: Wassily Kandinsky
Publisher: Cosimo, Inc.
ISBN: 1602064288
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 97

Book Description
"Wassily Kandinsky s contributions as a theorist were arguably more influential on modern art than any of his paintings. In Concerning the Spiritual in Art, first published in 1914, Kandinsky both promotes and defends a form of art in which painters express themselves in abstract terms independent of the material world around them, much as musicians do. Divided into two parts, About General Aesthetic (including an examination of geometrical forms) and About Painting (a discussion of the psychology of color and the language and form of color), Concerning the Spiritual in Art offers an insight into the mind of one of the most renowned of all abstract painters and a preview of the art that he was to produce in the years to come. Russian painter WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866 1944), one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, pioneered abstract art. His other books include Point and Line to Plane and Kandinsky, Complete Writings on Art."

Drawn to Design

Drawn to Design PDF Author: Eric J. Jenkins
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3038211923
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 2313

Book Description
The book is a guide for students and teachers to understand the need for, the role of and the methods and techniques of freehand analytical sketching in architecture. The presentation focuses on drawing as an approach to and phase of architectural design. The conceptual goal of this approach is to use drawing not as illustration or depiction, but exploration. The first part of the book discusses underlying concepts of freehand sketching in design education and practice as a compliment to digital technologies. The main component is a series of chapters that constitute a typology of fundamental issues in architecture and urban design; for instance, issues of “façade” are illustrated with sketch diagrams that show how façades can be explored and sketched through a series of specific questions and step-by-step procedures. This book is especially timely in an age in which the false conflict between "traditional vs. digital" gives way to multiple design tools, including sketching. It fosters understanding of the essential human ability to investigate the designed and natural world through freehand drawing. The author, Eric Jenkins has received several teaching awards and design awards. He is Associate Professor at Catholic University of America's School of Architecture and Planning where he teaches design, theory and analytical sketching. He earned a Masters in Design Studies from Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, and has previously published “To Scale: One Hundred Urban Plans”.

ISBN: 3643913605
Category :
Languages : en
Pages :

Book Description
Harmonizing Bioethics is about relationships of peoples and cultures, our civilizations and living environments. Following the original concept of bioethics by Fritz Jahr, we search for harmonizing discourses in the process of industrialization and globalization. Confucius 'compassion' and Jesus 'love your neighbor' are the global backbones of our actual and future deliberations. 'Do not hurt, be compassionate, be respectful, be responsible'. Issues such as caring for the poor, euthanasia, organ transplantation and physician-lay collaboration and teamwork are discussed in transcultural evaluation. A special aspect of urban bioethics and culture discusses also the influence of artificial intelligence. Building upon these pluriperspective grounds will direct us and the world in future collaboration as a bridge in global ways in integrating peoples and values advancing to a new age for all.
