Lean Tools in Apparel Manufacturing

Lean Tools in Apparel Manufacturing PDF Author: Prabir Jana
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 0128194278
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 454

Book Description
The never-ending global search for a country with a low labour wage is almost bottoming out. The so-called labor-oriented apparel manufacturing industry is poised to change. Due to fierce global pressure on reducing price and lead time, the textiles and apparel producers will have to banish all waste from their supply chain. Lean manufacturing which removes waste and smoothens the process flow is gaining popularity among textiles and apparel producers and will be a key element for the survival of the industry in the years ahead. - An overview of various lean tools with a balanced mix of conceptual knowledge and practical applications in the context of apparel manufacturing - Valuable industry information which managers and engineers can follow themselves without the need to hire outside consultants - Case studies and examples from apparel manufacturing demonstrating how lean tools are being used successfully by leading organizations; an academician's delight - Possible use cases of several lean tools having potential use in the apparel manufacturing scenario

Integrated Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems and Smart Value Chain

Integrated Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems and Smart Value Chain PDF Author: M. Reza Abdi
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319768468
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
The book develops manufacturing concepts and applications beyond physical production and towards a wider manufacturing value chain incorporating external stakeholders that include suppliers of raw materials and parts, customers, collaborating manufacturing companies, manufacturing service providers, and environmental organisations. The focal point of the value chain remains as a manufacturing system and its operations whiles flows of parts/materials and information and services across the supply/value chain tiers are taken into account. The book emphasises on the two innovative paradigms of Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) and the 4th industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) along with their incorporated development. RMS, as a relatively new paradigm, has been introduced to meet the requirements of ‘the factories of the future’, which is aimed by Industry 4.0, though introducing greater responsiveness and customised flexibility into production systems, in which changes in product volumes and types occur regularly. Manufacturing responsiveness can be achieved by RMS through reconfiguring the production facilities according to changing demands of products and new market conditions. The book addresses challenges of mass-customisation and dynamic changes in the supply-chain environment by focusing on developing new techniques related to integrability, scalability and re-configurability at a system level and manufacturing readiness in terms of financial and technical feasibility of RMS. It demonstrate the expected impacts of an RMS design on operational performance and its supply/value chain in the current/future manufacturing environment facing dynamic changes in the internal/external circumstances. In order to establish a circular economy through the RMS value chain, an integrated data-based reconfiguration link is introduced to incorporate information sharing amongst the value chain stakeholders and facilitate grouping products into families with allocation of the product families to the corresponding system configurations with optimal product-process allocation. Decision support systems such as multi criteria decision making tools are developed and applied for the selection of product families and optimising product-process configuration. The proposed models are illustrated through real case studies in applicable manufacturing firms.

New Industry 4.0 Advances in Industrial IoT and Visual Computing for Manufacturing Processes

New Industry 4.0 Advances in Industrial IoT and Visual Computing for Manufacturing Processes PDF Author: Luis Norberto López de Lacalle
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039282905
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 428

Book Description
Modern factories are experiencing rapid digital transformation supported by emerging technologies, such as the Industrial Internet of things (IIOT), industrial big data and cloud technologies, deep learning and deep analytics, AI, intelligent robotics, cyber-physical systems and digital twins, complemented by visual computing (including new forms of artificial vision with machine learning, novel HMI, simulation, and visualization). This is evident in the global trend of Industry 4.0. The impact of these technologies is clear in the context of high-performance manufacturing. Important improvements can be achieved in productivity, systems reliability, quality verification, etc. Manufacturing processes, based on advanced mechanical principles, are enhanced by big data analytics on industrial sensor data. In current machine tools and systems, complex sensors gather useful data, which is captured, stored, and processed with edge, fog, or cloud computing. These processes improve with digital monitoring, visual data analytics, AI, and computer vision to achieve a more productive and reliable smart factory. New value chains are also emerging from these technological changes. This book addresses these topics, including contributions deployed in production, as well as general aspects of Industry 4.0.
