El Grupo Técnico Especializado en la Medición del Ingreso y el Bienestar (GTMIB) es una iniciativa que reunió a 27 autores con el fin de proponer las características esenciales de una nueva encuesta sobre el ingreso y el bienestar de los hogares en México. El trabajo se enfocó en identificar la información necesaria para el desarrollo de nuevos indicadores de progreso social que vayan más allá de medidas tradicionales como el producto interno bruto. En sus propuestas, el GTMIB buscó resaltar el carácter multidimensional del bienestar y la necesidad de atender sus aspectos distributivos y de sostenibilidad, así como incorporar los más recientes avances metodológicos. Esta obra recoge los resultados de esta labor sin buscar establecer un diseño definitivo de encuesta, sino proporcionar un compendio de las discusiones, mejores prácticas y posibles soluciones que enriquezcan el debate sobre el diseño de nuevas medidas de progreso social. En este sentido, aunque las propuestas toman como referencia el caso de México, pueden ser de utilidad para otros países. Esperamos que el libro contribuya al diseño de mejores fuentes de información e indicadores más eficaces que permitan realizar diagnósticos más precisos sobre la situación y la evolución del bienestar de la sociedad, así como aportar al desarrollo de políticas públicas más efectivas y eficientes.

On October 14-19, 1990, the 6th International Conference on the Conservation of Earthen Architecture was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. In discussions that focused on the future, the application of modern technologies and materials to site conservation was urged, as was using scientific knowledge of existing structures in the creation of new, low-cost, earthen architecture housing.
