Languages : en
Pages : 984

Book Description
Mechanical Design Engineering Handbook, Second Edition, is a straight-talking and forward-thinking reference covering the design, specification, selection, use and integration of the machine elements that are fundamental to a wide range of engineering applications. This updated edition includes new material on tolerancing, alternative approaches to design, and robotics, as well as references to the latest ISO and US engineering regulations. Sections cover bearings, shafts, gears, seals, belts and chains, clutches and brakes, springs, fasteners, pneumatics and hydraulics, amongst other core mechanical elements. This practical handbook is an ideal shelf reference for those working in mechanical design across a variety of industries. In addition, it is also a valuable learning resource for advanced students undertaking engineering design modules and projects as part of broader mechanical, aerospace, automotive and manufacturing programs. - Presents a clear, concise text that explains key component technology, with step-by-step procedures, fully worked design scenarios, component images and cross-sectional line drawings - Provides essential data, equations and interactive ancillaries, including calculation spreadsheets, to inform decision-making, design evaluation and incorporation of components into overall designs - Includes procedures and methods that are covered to national and international standards where appropriate - New to this edition: flow-charts to help select technology; Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), product, service and system design models, Functional Analysis Diagrams (FADs), Design for Excellence (DFX), Design for MADE, and the process of remanufacture

Gears

Gears PDF Author: Vincenzo Vullo
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030365026
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 880

Book Description
The book explores the geometric and kinematic design of the various types of gears most commonly used in practical applications, also considering the problems concerning their cutting processes. The cylindrical spur and helical gears are first considered, determining their main geometric quantities in the light of interference and undercut problems, as well as the related kinematic parameters. Particular attention is paid to the profile shift of these types of gears either generated by rack-type cutter or by pinion-rack cutter. Among other things, profile-shifted toothing allows to obtain teeth shapes capable of greater strength and more balanced specific sliding, as well as to reduce the number of teeth below the minimum one to avoid the operating interference or undercut. These very important aspects of geometric-kinematic design of cylindrical spur and helical gears are then generalized and extended to the other examined types of gears most commonly used in practical applications, such as: straight bevel gears; crossed helical gears; worm gears; spiral bevel and hypoid gears. Finally, ordinary gear trains, planetary gear trains and face gear drives are discussed. Includes fully-developed exercises to draw the reader's attention to the problems that are of interest to the designer, as well as to clarify the calculation procedure Topics are addressed from a theoretical standpoint, but in such a way as not to lose sight of the physical phenomena that characterize the various types of gears which are examined The analytical and numerical solutions are formulated so as to be of interest not only to academics, but also to designers who deal with actual engineering problems concerning the gears

A Rational Procedure for the Preliminary Design of Minimum Volume Gears

A Rational Procedure for the Preliminary Design of Minimum Volume Gears PDF Author: American Gear Manufacturers Association
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 74

Book Description
A simple, closed-form procedure is presented as a first step in the design of minimum volume spur and helical gearsets. The procedure includes methods for selecting geometry and dimensions, considering maximum pitting resistance, bending strength, and scuffing resistance. It also includes methods for selecting profile shift.

Mechanical Engineer's Reference Book

Mechanical Engineer's Reference Book PDF Author: Edward H. Smith
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 1483102572
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1190

Book Description
Mechanical Engineer's Reference Book, 12th Edition is a 19-chapter text that covers the basic principles of mechanical engineering. The first chapters discuss the principles of mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics, microprocessors, instrumentation, and control. The succeeding chapters deal with the applications of computers and computer-integrated engineering systems; the design standards; and materials' properties and selection. Considerable chapters are devoted to other basic knowledge in mechanical engineering, including solid mechanics, tribology, power units and transmission, fuels and combustion, and alternative energy sources. The remaining chapters explore other engineering fields related to mechanical engineering, including nuclear, offshore, and plant engineering. These chapters also cover the topics of manufacturing methods, engineering mathematics, health and safety, and units of measurements. This book will be of great value to mechanical engineers.

Mechanical Engineering Design

Mechanical Engineering Design PDF Author: L. J. Dennis
Publisher: Trans-Atlantic Publications
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
Aspects of design are studied with the idea of showing students how to apply engineering knowledge to good design practice. The text tries to inculcate the principle that though there is usually more than one solution to design problems, one solution will meet the specifications best.
