Students in grades 4 and 7 took ISAT tests in science and social science. Grade 4 and 7 students also participated in statewide studies in fine arts and physical development and health. ISAT measures the extent to which students are meeting the Illinois Learning Standards (1997). Illinois teachers and curriculum experts developed the ISAT tests in cooperation with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Schools and districts receive a summary report and student roster for each grade tested, Individual Student Reports for each student, and a student data disk for each school or district. Districts also receive a District Summary, which is a roster by grade of the results of all schools in the district. No individual student results are reported for fine arts or physical development and health.

The Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE) measures student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards. It recognizes the excellent achievement of individual students whose scores qualify them for honors, and it measures the progress that schools have made in helping their students meet the Illinois Learning Standards. The PSAE comprises the ACT Assessment, Work Keys tests in reading and mathematics, and tests in writing, science, and social science developed by Illinois teachers and curriculum experts working in cooperation with the Illinois State Board of Education and its test development contractor. Grade 11 students took the PSAE in April/May 2004. Schools receive a summary report and school roster, individual reports for each student, and a student data file on disk or CD. Districts receive a summary report and copies of school summary reports. District superintendents also receive a District Summary, which is a roster of the results of all schools in the district for each of 21 comparison groups. In each subject, PSAE scores can range from 120 to 200. This document examines the meaning of the scores given on the PSAE.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) administered Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English (IMAGE) tests in Spring 2004. IMAGE tests are administered to Limited English Proficient (LEP) students who have been in either a Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) or Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) program since September 30 of the current school year, but less than five years. IMAGE reading and writing tests were given to eligible LEP students in grades 3-11, and IMAGE mathematics tests were given to eligible LEP students in grades 3, 5, 8, and 11. ISBE initially developed the tests in response to a General Assembly Task Force?s recommendation to administer a standardized reading and writing English proficiency assessment to eligible LEP students. IMAGE mathematics tests were introduced for the first time in 2002 to meet federal school accountability requirements. This document reviews the percentages for the state of Illinois as a whole on the IMAGE Assessment tests from 2000-2004.
