Wisdom and love from grandparents. This is a different kind of family story! It is one that most never hears of in public, but so many families experience it in private. Often we read and hear testimonies about the determination of a strong mother or grandmother that guided her family along, through the pain and the sorrow, no money, no education, and no hope. Yet, with much wisdom and determination, made it and so did her children. Grandmother Mildred is that character in this book. She is on a different side of this family dynamic. She is standing back and watching her daughter's emotional turmoil erupt in her granddaughter's life. It is about the best for your child, every child, to have the love, care, and support of parents and their families, believing in love, hope, and healing for every child.

Sassafras
Author: Rebecca Huntley
Publisher: Hachette Australia
ISBN: 0733651259
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 220
Book Description
When you've experienced trauma and conventional treatments have failed, where do you turn? After unsuccessfully trying traditional therapy, renowned author and social researcher Rebecca Huntley chose an unconventional path to healing: MDMA. The drug MDMA is made from the root of the sassafras tree. It is known as a party drug, taken to have a good time, to dance, to shed inhibitions. It has also, since early 2023, been authorised in Australia for use in treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder that has not responded to treatment. For those with PTSD, the goal is not to have a good time and dance: it is to find a way forward in their lives after trauma, and to find their way back to the person they were before they were traumatised. For Rebecca, this meant reconciling with the violence, trauma, death and despair that had taken root in her life. It also meant stopping a crushing cycle of intergenerational trauma for the sake of her children. She had three sessions of MDMA therapy, delivered by an underground healer. The treatment changed her life, her view of the world and the way she saw the past, present and future. It led to greater wisdom, compassion and awareness of the connections between humans and the natural world. Sassafras is the story of a woman determined to confront her traumatic past head on. In doing so she discovered something that could be of great benefit to us all.

Matthewss story tells of the hills and valleys one encounters in daily life in school and the community. You will share with Matthew the anguish at the death of a cherished grandmother and the devastation that comes having a grandfather with Alzheimer as well as other tragedies dot his young life The story tells of his experiences in pre-school to high school which is a mixture of highs and lows. His talent in music is realized and by the time he is seventeen he is playing the piano, guitar, harmonica and xylophone. American Illustrated Magazine
Franco-American Identity, Community, and La Guiannée
Author: Anna Servaes
Publisher: Univ. Press of Mississippi
ISBN: 1626745587
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 283
Book Description
French traditions in America do not live solely in Louisiana. Franco-American Identity, Community, and La Guiannée travels to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, to mark the Franco-American traditions still practiced in both these Midwestern towns. This Franco-American cultural identity has continued for over 250 years, surviving language loss, extreme sociopolitical pressures, and the American Midwest's demands for conformity. Ethnic identity presents itself in many forms, including festivals and traditional celebrations, which take on an even more profound and visible role when language loss occurs. On New Year's Eve, the guionneurs, revelers who participate in the celebration, disguise themselves in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century costume and travel throughout their town, singing and wishing New Year's greetings to other members of the community. This celebration, like such others as Cajun Mardi Gras in Louisiana, Mumming in Ireland and Newfoundland, as well as the Carnaval de Binche, belongs to a category of begging quest festivals that have endured since the Medieval Age. These festivals may have also adapted or evolved from pre-Christian pagan rituals. Anna Servaes produces a historical context for both the development of French American culture as well as La Guiannée in order to understand contemporary identity. She analyzes the celebration, which affirms ethnic community, drawing upon theories by influential anthropologist Victor Turner. In addition, Servaes discusses cultural continuity and its relationship to language, revealing contemporary expressions of Franco-American identity.
