When Grandmother Was A Little Girl

When Grandmother Was A Little Girl PDF Author: Harris T. Vincent
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1452077282
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 42

Book Description
Story telling is a lost art. There once was a time when stories were passed on by word of mouth from generation to generation. These stories are a chronicle of that time. These particular stories were told as stories generations ago long before there were telephones, televisions, DVDs or films to be viewed at the movie complex. They were told before there were computers, iphones, Blackberries or X-men. These particular stories were transcribed by my uncle in the 1950's and are about the stories he remembers his aunt telling him about her grandmother when she was a little girl. That would make the setting and time of these stories somewhere around the early to middle 1800's. These stories will take you back to a more serene and pastoral time. They are very enchanting stories and they evoke memories of how life was lived a long time ago. One of the more notable elements of the narrative is that they are not grammatically correct but rather are rife with dangling participles and misplaced modifiers. But that is their charm. They are told in such a way that you can really picture and hear a little old grandmother telling a story in front of some transfixed children. That is the beauty of them. So sit yourselves down in front of the roaring fireplace with some cider and start roasting some nuts like they used to do so long ago. And be very quiet, children, so grandmother can tell you about the time when her grandmother was a little girl.

The Grandmother Principles

The Grandmother Principles PDF Author: Suzette Haden Elgin
Publisher: Abbeville Press
ISBN: 9780789205858
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 228

Book Description
According to the author, "Grandmother skills" are disappearing because in our highly mobile society, women may now remain in the workforce or live far from their grandchildren. Elgin (The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense), herself a grandmother to 10, attempts to fill this gap by providing grandmothers of all types and ages with this chatty and good-natured guide to successful grandmothering. Included among Elgin's 21 sensible principles are advice for mediating family disputes, tips for helping grandchildren with money problems while maintaining one's own financial solvency, as well as the importance of passing down family myths and stories to the next generation. Elgin also discusses family crises or illnesses when it may become necessary for a grandmother to take over the running of the household of one of her children (whom she coyly refers to as a "chadult"). Elgin firmly believes that once the emergency is over, a grandmother must return the household to the parents as soon as possible and gracefully return home. Elgin includes lots of nitty gritty advice but most of her book is aimed at reminding readers how to give families the advantage of their experience without giving in to the frailties of age. “ 35 b/w illustrations
