Book Description
I've written this book specifically for pastors, lay leaders, and counselors who help victims and survivors of domestic violence and domestic abuse. Women who are beaten and battered don't know how to ask for help. They're confused, fearful and don't know who they can trust. Pastors, lay leaders, and counselors are the first responders to women seeking help. Depending on the response she gets, will depend on what she does next. Giving you this book is her way of saying, "This is what is going on. Can you help me?" I want to thank each of you who take the time to read this. The women and children need you only to have a little understanding, a lot of prayer, deep compassion and guidance. As you read this book and possibly my other one "Why Does He Keep Hurting Me?" you'll see in my situation that murder was his next step - my death. The violence I endured was unimaginable. In short, over a 20- year marriage, I was stabbed repeatedly, left for dead, broke 52 bones, put in a coma, and much worse than those. I went to church smiling and laughing, but life was anything but that. As a victim of severe spousal abuse, I questioned how I could stay with an abuser. I wondered how in my situation that I could spend twenty years enduring horrific torture, yet remain in the situation. During the last eight years of my marriage, I spent endless hours trying to find a way to escape from a man who would not let me go. To the world, I lived a beautiful life with a perfect home, perfect children, perfect husband, and perfect business. However, behind the four walls of our home, I lived a secret life of grotesque violence. Nevertheless, not only was the world deceived - so was I. I sought those years understanding what abuse is, and why I allowed him to instill that fear, that hopelessness, that deceptiveness and that inability to leave. To understand why a woman would endure such torture, you would have to understand the mind of a batterer. Domestic violence is a silent crime, so shocking, so horrific, that it's swept under the rug as if it doesn't exist - a world so terrifying, that when women cry for help from family, friends, police and even our judicial system - they find no comfort. The courts and police see batterers that injure their wife as a serious crime. Regardless of the victim's wounds, the courts hardly punish with severe consequences; and the police dismiss it as a domestic dispute. Beloved Pastors: We would like to believe domestic violence does not exist in our churches. We want to think that our treasured congregations are exempt from any abuse. But the truth is domestic abuse and violence is rampant in our churches. It is estimated that one in every four women are abused in churches today. Domestic violence is at epidemic proportions, every nine seconds a woman is beaten and every six hours a woman dies from domestic violence, and the toll for children is even higher. We stand at the pulpit looking out, joining in church barbeques, gathering in the fellowship hall watching our church families holding hands, laughing, smiling, talking about the beautiful things going on in their lives but in reality, one in every four of our church members are abused. Violence is the antithesis to God's Word. God's ministers are called to rise up and defend the helpless, the powerless, and the defenseless. Scripture provides a fertile foundation for God's mandate for pastoral intervention for victims of domestic violence and to take responsibility from a biblical standpoint. Please take a stand today! Book Description
Learn the fundamental distinctions with this thoughtful study of Christ-ordained marriage! This unique volume reconciles a Biblical interpretation of marriage with the reality of domestic violence. Designed to raise awareness of abuse issues within the born-again community, Family Abuse and the Bible: The Scriptural Perspective works to promote the genuine sanctity of marriage and headship of the husband by examining the ways this God-given position can be subverted by Satan. It combines close Biblical exegesis with psychological insight into the effects of verbal, sexual, physical, and spiritual abuse. Family Abuse and the Bible offers new hope to conservative Christian women in abusive relationships. It demonstrates that abuse is not the will of God and that submission to violence is actually giving in to demonic forces. The tools in this book can ultimately free them from the horror of an abuse they may feel is ordained by God, while leaving them with an intact source of strength in their faith. Secular therapists and counselors will find Family Abuse and the Bible an essential resource that can help them remain sensitive to the needs of abused Christian women. This book explains conservative Christian beliefs about marriage, while providing powerful Biblical justifications that will reach Christian clients when secular ideas fail. Family Abuse and the Bible offers a clear-sighted Scriptural interpretation of domestic violence issues, including: the link between drugs and demonic possession the ways abusers twist the Scriptures to justify their ungodly actions the cycle of violence the role of repentance and forgiveness the difference between Biblical headship and abuse This book is an essential tool for pastors, Christian counselors, and family therapists who work with Christian clients and also for husbands and wives who want the Lord’s will for their marriage.

God Provides a Way of Escape

God Provides a Way of Escape PDF Author: Dr. Gwendola Williams
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1466920521
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 115

Book Description
God loves us and wants us to love Him, each other, and ourselves. God never intended anyone to be victimized, and it is important that we love and respect ourselves, holding ourselves in high regard. Domestic violence is sin, and violent interactions break the greatest commandments. Violence is incompatible with love, and thats why it is important to embrace Gods word to find out exactly what it says to us about Gods love. Furthermore, we know the Holy Spirit neither produces nor condones abuse, for love and gentleness are Fruit of the Spirit according to Galatians. We are precious to Him. We are valuable to God, and His sacrifice for us proves that. No matter what we have been told, what experiences we have had, what mistakes we have made, God loves us and wants us to be loved. We do not have to labor in an arena God never intended for us to labor in, He wants us to be free. If you are in a relationship that threatens your mental and physical health, your soul and your temple, seek guidance and strength from a God who knows your struggle. He is ready to deliver you because you have dwelt long enough on this mountain.

Setting the Captives Free

Setting the Captives Free PDF Author: Ron Clark
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1597524247
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
Abuse is a problem that needs to be understood, addressed, and challenged. The abused are humans in the image of God who need to be protected, loved, and empowered to stand with us and walk through life with respect and dignity. When God brings a victim to us, we have a responsibility to love them as we want to be loved and be faithful to that responsibility. We must make sure that they and their children are safe, protected, and given the chance to live in peace and love. Abusers are also humans who are in the image of God, and they need to be taught how to live and respect all others. They must be confronted and challenged to change or face prosecution by our legal system and our spiritual communities. I believe that the faith community is in a great position to address this problem. We have a God who grieves over the violence that occurs in families. Yet we have a God who grieves even more over the fact that spiritual leaders have failed to act as servants of Yahweh in this respect. The rest of this book is an appeal to you to gain an understanding of what it really means to face domestic violence and how to help bring peace and wholeness to victims and their children caught in the web of abuse. It is an appeal to you to confront those who abuse others rather than shut your eyes . . . .Ó --from the Introduction
