Book Description
You think what you feel; you say what you think. Words are nothing less than expressions of the heart i.e.,..."out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Matthew 12:34. My poetry has its origin from my heart-what I feel (and know), what I have experienced from an intimate relationship with the lover of my soul, Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:10 says, "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." In this verse, the word "workmanship" comes from the Greek root word "poiema" (pronounced poi' a ma), a thing that is made; created; a workmanship, and where we get our word poem. Each one of us has been given gifts, talents, and abilities that enable us to do the "good works" that God "hath before ordained", or planned for us to do "that we should walk in them". We are the ryhthm, the meter of His heartbeat. It is my prayer you will find encouragement, hope, peace, and joy while reading this book of poetry, for I am His workmanship, His poem.

The Embers and the Stars
Author: Erazim Kohák
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 0226450171
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 284
Book Description
"It is hard to put this profound book into a category. Despite the author's criticisms of Thoreau, it is more like Walden than any other book I have read. . . . The book makes great strides toward bringing the best insights from medieval philosophy and from contemporary environmental ethics together. Anyone interested in both of these areas must read this book."—Daniel A. Dombrowski, The Thomist "Those who share Kohák's concern to understand nature as other than a mere resource or matter in motion will find his temporally oriented interpretation of nature instructive. It is here in particular that Kohák turns moments of experience to account philosophically, turning what we habitually overlook or avoid into an opportunity and basis for self-knowledge. This is an impassioned attempt to see the vital order of nature and the moral order of our humanity as one."—Ethics

Epitaphs for the Journey
Author: Paul Mariani
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1620321912
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 235
Book Description
In Epitaphs for the Journey: New, Selected and Revised Poems, Paul Mariani revisits forty years of writing poems, including revising many of his earlier lyrics, to shape his latest volume into a life lived and lived again over the past seven decades. The eight sections--or cantos--each composed of twelve poems, cover roughly a decade apiece and contour Mariani's search for answers to the constant interplay of the felt presence of the Mystery we call God as it plays with the modern imagination. Mariani's background is Catholic and broadly classic, and warmly embraces all aspects of Christianity and Judaism and the world even beyond those. The Poiema Poetry Series Poems are windows into worlds; windows into beauty, goodness, and truth; windows into understandings that won't twist themselves into tidy dogmatic statements; windows into experiences. We can do more than merely peer into such windows; with a little effort we can fling open the casements, and leap over the sills into the heart of these worlds. We are also led into familiar places of hurt, confusion, and disappointment, but we arrive in the poet's company. Poetry is a partnership between poet and reader, seeking together to gain something of value--to get at something important. Ephesians 2:10 says, "We are God's workmanship . . ." poiema in Greek--the thing that has been made, the masterpiece, the poem. The Poiema Poetry Series presents the work of gifted poets who take Christian faith seriously, and demonstrate in whose image we have been made through their creativity and craftsmanship. These poets are recent participants in the ancient tradition of David, Asaph, Isaiah, and John the Revelator. The thread can be followed through the centuries--through the diverse poetic visions of Dante

The Joseph Project
Author: Rev. Norm Stewart
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 171
Book Description
The Joseph Project provides the key to confronting and overcoming life's challenges, adversities, and obstacles. It is the biblical formula for succeeding in every area of life and relationships, both personal and spiritual. It presents the story of a young boy rising from the very pit of rejection, abandonment, slavery, and imprisonment to the pinnacle of success. In so doing, it highlights the virtues of his character--his humility, his positive attitude, his integrity, and his forgiving spirit. These virtues, grounded in his firm faith in God and his willingness to risk his life to defend them, were the hallmark of his success. This faith not only enabled him to overcome bitterness and conquer immorality but elevated him from prison to the governor's mansion of a country he entered as a slave. Through his wisdom and extraordinary courage, he prepared Egypt to avert the effects of the worst economic disaster to threaten the world at that time. The Joseph Project presents a biblical blueprint for success. This is based on the simple formula that what God did for Joseph, He wants to do for anyone willing to follow the same principles. Through this project, you will learn the secret of true prosperity. That, contrary to popular belief, true prosperity is often not measured by how much wealth you own or how many degrees you have earned but by having a right relationship with God. Joseph was regarded as a prosperous man by his masters even while he was a slave and a prisoner. By adapting the strategies he employed, you will not only succeed in your endeavors, but the problems you encounter that would threaten to delay or deny your success will prove to be only stepping stones on your path to real success. By demonstrating how Joseph's problems became stepping stones on his journey to the governorship of Egypt, The Joseph Project provides a scriptural blueprint that is applicable to most problems we face today. Even when those things seem to harm us, God has a purpose for allowing them. Be assured if He allows it, it is for our good, and He will go through it with us. He was with Joseph as a slave and as a prisoner. This project also inspires us to persevere and never abandon our hopes and dreams regardless of the circumstances we may face. We have the confidence that just as He did for Joseph, He will do for us and that He will make a way when there seems to be no way.

Pursuing Excellence for the Glory of God
Author: Keith A. Currivean
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1666723444
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 350
Book Description
What is education? How and why do educators do what we do? And, in what way can and ought education be distinctively Christian? These are a few of the probing questions for which this book seeks answers. Among other contributions, Currivean’s book explores a biblical philosophy of Christian education with unprecedented breadth and depth. To accomplish this objective, it considers what education is (chapter 1), what philosophy of education is (chapter 2), and what the ultimate goal of education is (chapter 3). Additionally, this book provides a never-before, Christian overview of twelve philosophies of education (chapters 4–15). Each of those chapters provides an introduction of a particular philosophy of education and some of that philosophy’s exemplars. Each of those chapters also contributes a constructive, Christian critique. Chapter 16 highlights a biblical philosophy of Christian education—featuring some people, some principles, and some priorities for a biblical philosophy of Christian education, viz. pursuing excellence for the glory of God.

Union with Christ
Author: Rankin Wilbourne
Publisher: David C Cook
ISBN: 1434710874
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 305
Book Description
Winner of the 2017 Christian Book Award for New Author Named one of the top books of 2016 by John Piper's Desiring God ministry To experience why the gospel is good news and answer life’s most foundational questions about identity, destiny, and purpose, we must understand what it means to be united to Christ. If you are a Christian, the Bible says that Christ has united his life to yours, that you are now in Christ and Christ is in you. This almost unfathomable truth is the central theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Yet few Christians today experience or enjoy this reality. Union with Christ reveals the transformational power of this ancient doctrine while addressing the basic questions of the human heart: Who Am I? Why Am I Here? Where Am I Headed? How Will I Get There? Nothing is more practical for living the Christian life than union with Christ. The recovery of this reality provides the anchor and engine for your life with God—for your destiny is not only to see Christ, but to actually become like him.

Opening King David
Author: Brad Davis
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1608995542
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 217
Book Description
The human experience is an intimate, tough, and, at times, hilarious conversation with what is familiar and what is mystery. Poetry at its best turns this conversation into art and teaches by example how to employ language creatively and courageously--even coyly--in exploring the full range of human response to whatever life may deliver. Certainly the biblical Psalms set the highest of standards in this regard. In Opening King David, Davis takes aim at making contemporary poems in conversation with the Psalms; his personal, cultural, and natural surroundings; and the wonder and mess of his own soul. As a painter with all colors at his disposal, Davis writes with the full spectrum of his available vocabulary, sometimes reaching for the glorious ineffable, at other times bluntly telling it like it--darkly--is. Neither devotional nor inspirational nor religious, these human poems take God seriously and honor our common struggle toward what Saint Paul calls "the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."
