Globalisation – Cultures – Religions / Globalisierung – Kulturen – Religionen PDF Author:
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004501452
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
The process of Globalisation has subjected cultures, religions and societies or communities of the world to fundamental changes, which are primarily characterised and conditioned by new communication technologies, migration, worldwide exchange of goods and capital. This development has led to the rise of plural societies, which not only mean chances and opportunities but also a potential of threat for the future of humanity. Subsequent to this development this international conference addresses the question of how living together in a global age could succeed and be fruitful.

Publisher: Rodopi
ISBN: 9042029692
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 271

Book Description
Among the consequences of the all engulfing process of globalisation is the experience that not only it promotes interdependence among peoples, folks, cultures and religions, but it also creates problems and tensions. The assignment of a thoughtful and practice-oriented accompanying of this development poses itself subsequently. From this background different lectures are being conducted in different places; research initiatives as well as projects are started and executed while several publications are featuring. Visible here is the fact that although there abound rich reservoirs of knowledge, there is still no clarity as to the contents and the theoretical and methodical contrasts that are yet to be examined.

Book Description
Globalization has become a common phenomenon, yet one that many people experience as a threat not only to their economic existence, but also to their cultural and moral self-image. This volume takes an interdisciplinary approach to provide a theoretical overview of how business ethics deals with the phenomenon of globalization. The authors first examine the origins and development of globalization and its interaction with business ethics, before discussing the impact on and role of national and multinational corporations. The book goes on to examine the relationship between industrialized and developing countries, and explores the place of ethics in globalized markets.

Challenges of Globalization

Challenges of Globalization PDF Author: Marika Lerch
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351529625
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 425

Book Description
"Globalization has been the ""buzzword"" in international political and academic discourse since the 1990s. It is used as a general descriptor of a world in which borders are becoming less and less important, while transnational flows of capital and goods, but also of ideas and people, cultural norms and values, crime, war, and viruses are increasing. If globalization's dynamics are to be fully understood, a reasonable critique is to be formulated, and realistic political proposals to meet the challenges of globalization are to be developed, this complex phenomenon must be dissected. Challenges of Globalization brings together prominent authors of different national backgrounds. They look beyond the buzzword to provide a genuinely ""global"" view of globalization. The editors' introduction provides a ""roadmap"" through the globalization debate and shows the connections between the different aspects covered in detail in the various contributions. This volume deals with two major issues: first, the economic, societal, ecological, and political consequences of globalization, including--but also going beyond--the identification of globalization's ""winners and losers"" worldwide; and second, solutions that have emerged from the current political debate to cope with the various challenges. These include the creation of new global governance structures, fostering a ""global civil society"" that might enhance the democratic legitimacy of global governance, and strategies to be implemented at national and regional levels, allowing states to adapt in ways that make liberalization compatible with development in poor countries and enable the rescue of the welfare state in rich countries.Challenges of Globalization serves as a multi-dimensional and accessible introduction to the globalization debate, and will be of particular interest to academics, policymakers, and international agencies."

Negotiating Development in Muslim Societies

Negotiating Development in Muslim Societies PDF Author: Gudrun Lachenmann
Publisher: Lexington Books
ISBN: 9780739126196
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
"Negotiating Development in Muslim Societies explores the negotiation processes of global development concepts such as gender equality, human rights, and poverty alleviation. It focuses on three countries that are undergoing different Islamization processes: Senegal, Sudan, and Malaysia. While much has been written about the hegemonic production and discursive struggle of development concepts globally, this book analyzes the negotiation of these development concepts locally and translocally. This comparative study examines the ways the activities of women's organizations and groups constitute new spaces by transferring and negotiating global development concepts, networking, and interactions with different local and translocal actors. Negotiating Development in Muslim Societies broadens the understanding of the relationship between gender, development, and Islam and the meanings of development in different cultural contexts in a globalizing world."--BOOK JACKET.

Intercultural Perceptions and Prospects of World Christianity

Intercultural Perceptions and Prospects of World Christianity PDF Author: Richard Friedli
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9783631614624
Category : Christianity and culture
Languages : en
Pages : 156

Book Description
Studies in the Intercultural History of Christianity, published by Peter Lang since 1975, is nowadays the largest series in the wide field of missiology, intercultural theology, and comparative religion/theology. The present editors decided to celebrate the publication of no less than one hundred and fifty volumes by evaluating and rethinking «intercultural theology». This book is meant to encourage Christian theology to be done more thoroughly, adequately, and effectively in the contemporary global and local setting. On the one hand, the volume offers new insights into the nature of doing biblical studies, church history, and systematic and practical theology as well as comparative theology, in an intercultural way. On the other hand, it argues for accomplishing interdisciplinary studies in the fields of theology and religion.
