Charles Glidden, son of Richard Gliddon, was born in about 1632 in Buckland-Brewer, Devon, England. He married Eunice Shore, daughter of Sampson Shore and Abigail Benson, in 1658. They had five children. He died in about 1707 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio and Illinois.

After the death of Elisabeth Florentine Homrighausen Wetter on April 29, 1828, the adult Wetter children were anxious to forge a new life even if it meant taking chances.
