Correspondence from Gilbert White Hulse to John Torrey, dated 1836-1841. Hulse's first three letters, written from army postings in Florida, describe a few plants from the area; their main bulk is taken up with details of the second Seminole War. The fourth letter, dated July 7, 1838 and written from Rodney, Mississippi, is a letter of recommendation for a Dr. John Savage. Hulse's last three letters, dated 1840-1841 and also written from Rodney, describe numerous plant, mineral, and fossil specimens he is sending to Torrey. Obsolete plant names mentioned include Chamaerops palmetto, Laurus persea, and Maclura aurantiaca.
