In severe hemorrhage or shock from perforation, transfuse, but in this instance. As in all cases of hemorrhage, haemostasis must rapidly follow transfusion, or else the reaction secured to a large extent by transfusion will empty the saline solution out of the same vessels from which the blood escaped. Transfusion itself is credited with haemostatic properties. The saline solution stimulates the heart's action, causes the capillaries as well as the large vessels to contract.
