Book Description
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Field Trip Guidebooks Series, Volume 308. This guidebook describes the geology of areas we will visit in the western Klamath Mountains and Coast Ranges of northernmost California. Articles are arranged in the order of our travel, from Medford to Crescent City on highway 199, and south to Eureka on coastal highway 101. Authors summarize the regional geologic setting and results of their research and earlier studies of the areas we will visit in review papers. Thus the geologic background necessary for interpretation of field stops is provided without the need of additional papers.

Book Description
Excerpt from Geologic Reconnaissance of the Northern Coast Ranges and Klamath Mountains, California: With a Summary of the Mineral Resources Northwestern California has been divided into two provinces: the northern Coast Ranges in the southern and southwestern part, and the Klamath Mountains in the northeastern part (fig. The boundary between the two provinces, as drawn by the writer, differs from the boundary originally drawn by Diller (1902, pl. These provinces differ from one another in topography, in the character of the rocks, and to a large extent in the mineral resources. The northern Coast Ranges and Klam ath Mountains constitute the major subject of this te port, but parts of two other provinces are shown on the geologic map. A narrow strip of the Sacramento Valley along the east ank of the northern Coast Ranges is included because the geology along this strip is impor tant to an understanding of the geology of the northern Coast Ranges. A part of the Cascade Range province is shown in the northeast part of the map. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. California's Amazing Geology

California's Amazing Geology PDF Author: Donald R. Prothero
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1498707920
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 497

Book Description
California has some of the most distinctive and unique geology in the United States. It is the only state with all three types of plate boundaries, an extraordinary history of earthquakes and volcanoes, and it has many rocks and minerals found nowhere else. The Golden State includes both the highest and lowest point in the continental US and practically every conceivable geological feature known. This book discusses not only the important geologic features of each region in California, but also the complex geologic four-dimensional puzzle of how California was assembled, beginning over 2 billion years ago. The author provides up-to-date and authoritative review of the geology and geomorphology of each geologic province, as well as recent revelations of tectonic history of California’s past. There are separate chapters on some of California’s distinctive geologic resources, including gold, oil, water, coastlines, and fossils. An introductory section describes basic rock and mineral types and fundamental aspects of plate tectonics, so that students and other readers can make sense of the bizarre, wild, and crazy jigsaw puzzle that is California's geological history.
