International Handbook on Geographical Education

International Handbook on Geographical Education PDF Author: Rod Gerber
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 940171942X
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 344

Book Description
I am very pleased to have been asked by Rod Gerber to provide a preface to such a book. Not least because of the twenty-four chapters, eight are written by former students or colleagues with whom I have worked in the past and whom I still meet at conferences on geographical education. It is with a certain pride and joy that I note the progress which has been made in geographical education both in its day to day teaching and in research, in the twenty years following the end of my term of office as Chair of the Commission on Geographical Education of the International Geographical Union (CGEIUG). My successors, Joe Stoltman, Hartwig Haubrich, Rod Gerber and now Lea Houtsonen, have done much and are continuing to work hard, to foster the development of geographical education. This book is proof, if proof were needed, that the international collaboration in this field, is alive and well, with contributions coming from all the continents (except Antarctica!). It would be a moribund subject that remained unaffected in one way or another by developments on the 'great world stage', as Fairgrieve (1926) would have put it. And, as Rod Gerber shows, the issues of globalisation, of cultural encounters, of differing value systems, of new technologies, of variable economic development and of environmental quality, all feature as topics which influence and are influenced by, geographical education.

Publisher: Gilad James Mystery School
ISBN: 7614903811
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 104

Book Description
Botswana is a landlocked country located in southern Africa. It shares borders with South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. The country has a population of approximately 2.3 million people, and the official languages are English and Setswana. Botswana has a unique history, having been one of the poorest countries in the world at independence in 1966, yet achieving significant economic growth over the following decades. The country has a high-income economy and is classified as an upper-middle-income country by the World Bank. Botswana is known for its diamond industry, which has been a major contributor to the country's economic growth. Despite its economic progress, Botswana also faces challenges such as high unemployment, income inequality, and an HIV/AIDS epidemic that affects a significant portion of the population.

World Regional Geography (without Subregions)

World Regional Geography (without Subregions) PDF Author: Lydia Mihelic Pulsipher
Publisher: Macmillan
ISBN: 9780716768258
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 532

Book Description
More than any other text for the course, Pulsipher's World Regional Geography (WRG) shows students how individuals are affected by, and respond to, economic, social, and political forces at all levels of scale: global, regional, subregional, local. It offers a vivid and inclusive picture of people in a globalizing world--men, women, children, both mainstream and marginalized citizens--not as seen from a Western perspective, but as they see themselves. The core topics of physical, economic, cultural, and political geography are examined from a contemporary perspective, based on authoritative insights from the most recent geographic theory. Two Versions of the Text Available: World Regional Geography: Global Patterns, Local Lives Without Subregions Third Edition 475 pages January 2005 (©2006), 0-7167-6825-9 Text with Optional Student CD-ROM, 0-7167-6843-7 World Regional Geography: Global Patterns, Local Lives With Subregions Third Edition 625 pages January 2005 (©2006), 0-7167-1904-5 Text with Optional Student CD-ROM, 0-7167-6258-7
