De nombreuses théoriciennes qui se reconnaissent dans le courant matérialiste cherchent à penser lest rapports entre les sexes en privilégiant leurs fondements matériels, notamment économiques, sociopolitiques, voire physiques sans négliger pour autant les dimensions symboliques. La manière dont la séparation et la hiérarchisation entre hommes et femmes sont produites se trouve au coeur de leurs réflexions. Ces élaborations ont permis de rompre avec l'idéologie de la complémentarité "naturelle" des sexes, de penser les rapports antagoniques entre le groupe des hommes et celui des femmes dans le but de les transformer. C'est à la présentation de ce corpus de concepts qu'est consacré le présent volume. L'objectif est de rendre compte de la diversité, de la richesse et des limites des analyses produites ainsi que de rappeler quelques-uns des débats, controverses et divergences qui ont traversé le mouvement des femmes.
