General Theory of Conical Flows and Its Application to Supersonic Aerodynamics

General Theory of Conical Flows and Its Application to Supersonic Aerodynamics PDF Author: Paul Germain

Category : Aerodynamics

Book Description
The report deals with a method of studying the equation of cylindrical waves particularly indicated for the solution of certain aerodynamic problems. The method reduces problems of a hyperbolic equation to problems of harmonic functions. The study has been applied toward setting up the fundamental principles, to developing their investigation up to calculation of the pressures on the visualized obstacles, and to showing how the initial field of "conical flows" was considerably enlarged by a procedure of integral superposition.

Tables for Supersonic Flow of Helium Around Right Circular Cones at Zero Angle of Attack

Tables for Supersonic Flow of Helium Around Right Circular Cones at Zero Angle of Attack PDF Author: Joseph L. Sims
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Supersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 36

Book Description
The results of the calculation of supersonic flow of helium about right circular cones at zero angle of attack are presented in tabular form. The calculations were performed using the Taylor-Maccoll theory. Numerical integrations were performed using a Runge-Kutta method for second-order differential equations. Results were obtained for cone angles from 2.5 to 30 degrees in regular increments of 2.5 degrees. In all calculations the desired free-stream Mach number was obtained to five or more significant figures.

Volterra's Solution of the Wave Equation as Applied to Three-dimensional Supersonic Airfoil Problems

Volterra's Solution of the Wave Equation as Applied to Three-dimensional Supersonic Airfoil Problems PDF Author: Max A. Heaslet
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Supersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 86

Book Description
A surface integral is developed which yields solutions of the linearized partial differential equation for supersonic flow. These solutions satisfy boundary conditions arising in wing theory. Particular applications of this general method are made, using acceleration potentials, to flat surfaces and to uniformlyy loaded lifting surfaces. Rectangular and trapezoidal plan forms are considered along with triangular forms adaptable to swept-forward and swept-back wings. The case of the trangular plan form in sideslip is also included. Emphasis is placed on the systematic application of the method to the lifting surfaces considered and on the possibility of further application.

Introduction to Hypersonic Flow

Introduction to Hypersonic Flow PDF Author: G. G. Chernyi
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483271684
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 277

Book Description
Introduction to Hypersonic Flow has been made available to the English speaking reader because of its usefulness for those individuals desirous of obtaining an introduction to the subject. Written by an internationally acknowledged expert in the field of hypersonic flow, the book makes available heretofore unpublished Soviet work, as well as published work little known outside the Soviet Union. The author has however made every effort to include, where appropriate. Western references for the work he discusses. Starting with a general introductory chapter on hypersonic aerodynamics and aerodynamic problems, the remainder of the book concentrates on the inviscid, perfect fluid aspects of hypersonic flow, with emphasis on the fundamental concepts and rational methods of calculation. The book is directed to students of aerodynamics and gas dynamics, as well as to scientists and engineers interested in problems of hypersonic flight. The level of approach is such that it should prove particularly useful as an undergraduate and introductory graduate text.
