Book Description
This master thesis investigates the potential of gender-lens investment criteria as a basis to develop a balanced scorecard for regional banks in order to implement gender diversity more effectively. The balanced scorecard was developed based on the criteria of the UBS Global Gender Equality UCITS ETF and the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index. The developed balanced scorecard entails the four perspectives of the original balanced scorecard, namely the financial, the customer, the internal business process and the learning and growth perspectives. However, research has shown that the developed scorecard is too comprehensive for the use in regional banks. Therefore, the developed scorecard should be used above all as a guideline to approach gender diversity in a structured manner. More precisely, it is recommended for regional banks to follow the diversity management process in order to implement gender diversity and leverage the developed scorecard in the process. This thesis follows four steps. First, the status quo of gender diversity within the organization and the goals for gender diversity are outlined. Second, the current gaps between the status quo and the goals are identified and the diversity strategy and its focus are defined by leveraging the developed scorecard. Third, when implementing the strategy, the three to four most important KPIs are selected, based on the chosen focus of the diversity strategy. In a fourth step, the effectiveness of the chosen measures and the progress of the diversity strategy are assessed, before restarting the circular process.

Undiversified

Undiversified PDF Author: Ellen Carr
Publisher: Columbia University Press
ISBN: 0231551533
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 392

Book Description
Diversification is a core principle of investing. Yet money managers have not applied it to their own ranks. Only around 10 percent of portfolio managers—the people most directly responsible for investing your money—are female, and the numbers are even worse at the ownership level. What are the causes of this underrepresentation, and what are its consequences—including for firms’ and clients’ bottom lines? In Undiversified, experienced practitioners Ellen Carr and Katrina Dudley examine the lack of women in investment management and propose solutions to improve the imbalance. They explore the barriers that subtly but effectively discourage women from entering and staying in the industry at each point in the pipeline. At the entry level, the lack of visible role models discourages students from considering the field, and those who do embark on an investment management career face many obstacles to retention and promotion. Carr and Dudley highlight the importance of informal knowledge about how to navigate career tracks, without which women are left at a disadvantage in an industry that lionizes confidence. They showcase a diverse constellation of successful female portfolio managers to demystify the profession. Drawing on wide-ranging research, interviews with prospective, current, and former industry practitioners, and the authors’ own experiences, Undiversified makes a compelling case that increasing the number of women could help transform active investment management at a time when it is under threat from passive strategies and technological innovation.

Gender Perspectives and Gender Impacts of the Global Economic Crisis

Gender Perspectives and Gender Impacts of the Global Economic Crisis PDF Author: Rania Antonopoulos
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136754997
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 355

Book Description
With the full effects of the Great Recession still unfolding, this collection of essays analyses the gendered economic impacts of the crisis. The volume, from an international set of contributors, argues that gender-differentiated economic roles and responsibilities within households and markets can potentially influence the ways in which men and women are affected in times of economic crisis. Looking at the economy through a gender lens, the contributors investigate the antecedents and consequences of the ongoing crisis as well as the recovery policies adopted in selected countries. There are case studies devoted to Latin America, transition economies, China, India, South Africa, Turkey, and the USA. Topics examined include unemployment, the job-creation potential of fiscal expansion, the behavioral response of individuals whose households have experienced loss of income, social protection initiatives, food security and the environment, shedding of jobs in export-led sectors, and lessons learned thus far. From these timely contributions, students, scholars, and policymakers are certain to better understand the theoretical and empirical linkages between gender equality and macroeconomic policy in times of crisis.

Financial Feminism

Financial Feminism PDF Author: Jessica Robinson
Publisher: Unbound Publishing
ISBN: 1783529539
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
As we face global challenges like climate change and inequality, what if women could use their investments to build a cleaner, fairer and more sustainable world? Financial feminism – the belief in the financial equality of women – has been gathering momentum, largely in the context of the gender pay gap: on average a woman earns 80% of what a man does. But there’s another gap – the gender investing gap – which shows women are investing less than men, saving less for retirement and parking more in cash. When compounded by the gender pay gap, this results in a significant shortfall, but there’s more to financial feminism than simply addressing these gaps: women also care about where their money is invested and the impact it can have. In this practical and accessible guide, sustainable investing expert Jessica Robinson shows how through financial feminism, women can use their financial power to invest in a sustainable future and build the kind of world they want to live in. With jargon-free explanations and real-world examples, she demystifies the financial services industry, breaks down just what sustainable investing is and demonstrates the societal and environmental impact of the investment decisions we make. Arming women with the information they need to get started – and keep going – she hopes that more women will embrace financial feminism, invest to grow their own wealth and, in doing so, use their financial decisions to demand a better world.
