Gas Turbine Pollutant Emissions
Author: IMechE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers)
Publisher: Wiley
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 120
Book Description
The latest data on air traffic's effect on climate change and air quality Air traffic emissions are a concern that will only grow as the volume of air traffic continues to increase; from reducing air quality in residential areas to contributing to climate change, these concerns are thus far only addressed in the lab. Gas Turbine Pollutant Emissions provides a comprehensive overview of the situation and offers direction for work focusing on application. Emphasizing the net global warming effects of oxides and contrails generated at altitude, this book offers particular insight for those working on low-emission and fuel-efficient technologies.

Control of Utility Boiler and Gas Turbine Pollutant Emissions by Combustion Modification
Factors Controlling Pollutant Emissions from Gas Turbine Engines
Author: Robert F. Sawyer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 15
Book Description
Primary pollutants emitted by aircraft gas turbine engines are carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, aldehydes, smoke, particulates, and nitric oxide. Factors controlling emissions of these pollutants are analyzed on the basis of aircraft engine exhaust composition and laboratory studies of gas turbine combustion processes. Moreover, an analytical prediction of the effect of aircraft operating parameters on the emission of nitric oxide is also given. Operational conditions and engine parameters such as ambient temperature, pressure, and humidity, flight altitude, flight Mach number, water injection, fuel properties, and combustor characteristics have been studied analytically, yielding rational criteria for the prediction of their effect on the emission of nitric oxide. (Modified author abstract).

Book Description
The development of clean, sustainable energy systems is one of the pre-eminent issues of our time. Most projections indicate that combustion-based energy conversion systems will continue to be the predominant approach for the majority of our energy usage, and gas turbines will continue to be important combustion-based energy conversion devices for many decades to come, used for aircraft propulsion, ground-based power generation, and mechanical-drive applications. This book compiles the key scientific and technological knowledge associated with gas turbine emissions into a single authoritative source. The book has three sections: the first section reviews major issues with gas turbine combustion, including design approaches and constraints, within the context of emissions. The second section addresses fundamental issues associated with pollutant formation, modeling, and prediction. The third section features case studies from manufacturers and technology developers, emphasizing the system-level and practical issues that must be addressed in developing different types of gas turbines that emit pollutants at acceptable levels.
