Book Description
Experimental measurements of the gamma-ray pulse height distributions due to the products of fast-neutron-induced fission of Uranium-235 and Uranium-238 are presented. The measurements were made at nine selected times after fission from 15 minutes to 3 days. Irradiation times and counting intervals were chosen to minimize saturation and decay effects. The experimental data were used to calculate 100 energy bin distributions of the absolute number of photons/fission-sec. by means of absolute calibrations of the collimated NaI(T1) detector. The number of fissions in each sample was determined radiochemically. Machine computation was used extensively.

Pages : 24
Book Description
The exposure rates per fission per square centimeter at three feet above a uniformly contaminated plane were calculated for nine selected times (1/4 to 72 hours) after fast neutron fission of U235 and U238. The calculations were made from experimentally-determined gamma-ray spectra of the fission products. (Author).

Gamma-ray Spectra of the Products of Thermal-neutron Fission of Uranium-235 at Selected Times After Fission

Pages : 38
Book Description
Experimental measurements of the gamma-ray spectra emitted by the products of thermal-neutron fission of U-235 have been made at nine selected times (, , 1, 2, 5, 10, 24, 48 and 72 hours) after fission. A calibrated and highly collimated 5 in. x 5 in. NaI (T1) detector was used. The 100-energy-bin gamma-ray spectra were unfolded from the pulse-height distributions by means of an iterative method. Extensive use was made of machine computation. The number of fissions in each sample was determined radiochemically.

Nuclear Science Abstracts
Sources, Fields, Measurements, and Applications
Author: Frank H. Attix
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483216217
Category : Science

Pages : 965
Book Description
Radiation Dosimetry, Second Edition, VOLUME III: Sources, Fields, Measurements, and Applications covers the significant aspects of radiation dosimetry. The book discusses dosimetry relating to x rays and teleisotope gamma rays, discrete and distributed alpha-, beta-, and gamma-ray sources, electron beams, and heavy charged particle beams. The text also describes dosimetry relating to reactors, neutron and mixed n-gamma fields, neutrons from accelerators and radioactive sources, initial and residual ionizing radiation from nuclear weapons, natural and man-made background radiation, radiation in space, ultra-high energy radiation, and uncommon types of particles. Dosimetry relating to health physics, diobiology, radiotherapy, implant and intracavitary therapy, ""transition-zones"" (especially at bone-tissue interfaces), and radiation processing is also considered. Physicists, biophysicists, and people involved in radiological science will find the book invaluable.
