GAAS Solar Cell Radiation Handbook

GAAS Solar Cell Radiation Handbook PDF Author: B. E. Anspaugh
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781502976161
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 328

Book Description
Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) has been of interest as a photovoltaic material for many years. This interest arises primarily for three reasons. First, the bandgap of 1.42eV at 300 K is very nearly ideal for a photovoltaic device operating in our solar spectrum. Second, GaAs solar cells should be capable of operating at higher temperatures than silicon (Si) cells. Third, GaAs solar cells are expected to be very radiation resistant. This handbook provides a history of GaAs solar cell development; Photovoltaic equations are described along with instrumentation techniques for measuring solar cells; Radiation effects in solar cells, electrical performance, and spacecraft flight data for solar cells are discussed; and the space radiation environment and solar array degradation calculations are addressed.

Solar Cell Radiation Handbook

Solar Cell Radiation Handbook PDF Author: National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781495366826
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
This handbook is intended to furnish the reader with the necessary tools to permit him to predict the degradation of solar cell electrical performance in any given space radiation environment. It begins with an introduction to solar cell theory, describing how cells are manufactured and how they are modeled mathematically. The interaction of energetic charged particle radiation with solar cells is discussed in detail and the concept of 1 MeV equivalent electron fluence is introduced. The space radiation environment is described and methods of calculating equivalent fluences for the space environment are developed. A computer program was written to perform the equivalent fluence calculations and a Fortran listing of the program is included. Finally, an extensive body of data detailing the degradation of solar cell electrical parameters as a function of 1 MeV electron fluence is presented.
