Book Description
BARCELONA are the greatest football team in the world, the greatest for a generation and possibly the greatest of all time. This is the untold inside story of how the best and most loved football team in the world came to redefine how the game is played. We start with the 2011 Champions League final at Wembley, the game that ended the debate about whether Barcelona were the greatest team in the world and began a new one: are they the best ever? We are inside the winning dressing room and inside the mind of the team's coach, Pep Guardiola. From there, the focus is on each of the iconic personalities of this team, telling its story through them, from their genesis in the late 1980s to their coronation in London: Guardiola; his mentor, Johan Cruyff; Xavi; Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi, perhaps the greatest footballer of all time.

Book Description
This insightful compilation offers interdisciplinary views on soccer among Latinos. In contrast with its relative lack of popularity in the United States, elsewhere, professional soccer is a hugely popular sport whose key players rival movie stars in popularity and influence. For many Latinos, especially those who emigrated to the United States, it is the game of choice. While Latino players are still not a major force in U.S. soccer, Latino fans certainly are, comprising, by one estimate, 45 percent of Major League Soccer attendees. Seeking to explain the allure and the influence of soccer among Latinos, particularly those living in the United States, Fútbol offers a collection of essays that treat the game from a wide variety of perspectives. These essays—including reminiscences and impressionistic assessments—touch on topics as diverse as politics, religion, sociology, marketing, athletics, and gender relations as they attempt to contextualize soccer in the Latino community.

The assistant soccer coach

The assistant soccer coach PDF Author: Denis Silva Puig
Publisher: Wanceulen Editorial S.L.
ISBN: 8499939112
Category : Sports & Recreation

Pages : 185

Book Description
The assistant soccer coach has existed for decades, and is a standard figure within the coaching staff, with specific roles, functions and responsibilities. However, I find it strange that nobody has yet described this profession formally. I used to only be a head coach, until one day I was proposed to be the assistant coach of U18 team of FC Barcelona. That is when I started thinking about writing this book, moved by my desire to continue learning. If I wanted to train in my new role I could only do it by asking others and observing training sessions. But I was missing one of the pillars that has forever supported my training: studying and reading. With this book I hope to cover that lack of information. The book is divided into two parts: the first is based on describing the assistant coach in professional soccer and I have not found a more practical way to do it than through interviews with assistant coaches. Each interviewee has contributed his experiences from working with the most recognized soccer coaches: I am talking about people who have worked with Vicente del Bosque, Ernesto Valverde, Luis Enrique, Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino, Sergio González, Quique Sánchez Flores, and Paulo Sousa. The second part of the book is related to Youth soccer, which I have experienced in clubs like Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona. I propose the role of the assistant coach working in Youth soccer to be more formative and educational than what is currently given, and I want to direct their effort towards two dimensions: the team's sporting performance (which the vast majority do) and the individualized analysis of the young player (which very few do). This second dimension is described in the last chapter, to demonstrate a new vision of assistant coaches in Youth soccer, who in my view have to dedicate their time to improving the players as an athlete and as a person in a more personalized and integral way.

Fútbol!

Fútbol! PDF Author: Joshua H. Nadel

Book Description
Zócalo Public Square’s 10 Best Books We Read This Year, 2014 How the game of soccer became a part of everyday life and national identity in Latin America Get ready for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics—both held in Brazil—with the story of Latin America’s most popular sport. Fútbol! explains why competitors and fans alike are so fiercely dedicated to soccer throughout the region. From its origins in British boarding schools in the late 1800s, soccer spread across the globe to become a part of everyday life in Latin America—and part of the region’s most compelling national narratives. This book illustrates that soccer has the powerful ability to forge national unity by appealing to people across traditional social boundaries. In fact, author Joshua Nadel reveals that what started as a simple game played a seriously important role in the development of Latin American countries in the twentieth century. Examining the impact of the sport in Argentina, Honduras, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Mexico, Nadel addresses how soccer affects politics, the media, race relations, and gender stereotypes. With inspiring personal stories and a sweeping historical backdrop, Fútbol! shows that soccer continues to be tied to regional identity throughout Central and South America today. People live for it—and sometimes kill for it. It is a source of hope and a reason for suicide. It is a way out of poverty for a select few and an intangible escape for millions more.
