Fusion Energy for Space

Fusion Energy for Space PDF Author: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781722412067
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 52

Book Description
This proposed program is to initiate a space flight research and development program to develop fusion energy for the space applications of direct space propulsion and direct space power, that is, a Space Fusion Energy (SFE) program. 'Direct propulsion' refers to the use of plasma energy directly for thrust without requiring other energy conversion systems. Further, to provide space missions with large electrical power, 'direct space power' is proposed whereby the direct conversion of charged particles into electricity is used, thereby avoiding thermal conversion system losses. The energy release from nuclear fusion reactions makes these highly efficient, high power space systems possible. The program as presented conducts in an orderly, hierarchical manner the necessary planning, analyses, and testing to demonstrate the practical use of fusion energy for space. There is nothing discussed that is known to be theoretically impossible. Validation of the engineering principles is sought in this program which uses a cost-benefit approach. Upon successful program completion, space will become more accessible and space missions more safely conducted. The country will have taken a giant step toward the commercialization of space. The mission enabling capability provided by fusion energy is well beyond mission planners' current dreams. Schulze, Norman R. Unspecified Center...

Fusion Rocket

Fusion Rocket PDF Author: Fouad Sabry
Publisher: One Billion Knowledgeable
ISBN:
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
What Is Fusion Rocket The concept of a fusion rocket refers to a theoretical design for a rocket that would be powered by fusion propulsion. Such a rocket would be able to offer effective and continuous acceleration in space without the need to carry a significant amount of fuel. The concept calls for fusion power technology that is beyond the capability of today's systems, as well as rockets that are far bigger and more sophisticated. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Fusion rocket Chapter 2: Interstellar travel Chapter 3: Interplanetary spaceflight Chapter 4: Spacecraft propulsion Chapter 5: Nuclear thermal rocket Chapter 6: Gaseous fission reactor Chapter 7: Nuclear salt-water rocket Chapter 8: Bussard ramjet Chapter 9: Antimatter rocket Chapter 10: Nuclear pulse propulsion Chapter 11: Antimatter-catalyzed nuclear pulse propulsion Chapter 12: Robert W. Bussard Chapter 13: Project Orion (nuclear propulsion) Chapter 14: Nuclear propulsion Chapter 15: Project Daedalus Chapter 16: Project Longshot Chapter 17: Interstellar probe Chapter 18: Spacecraft electric propulsion Chapter 19: Project Valkyrie Chapter 20: Gas core reactor rocket Chapter 21: Direct Fusion Drive (II) Answering the public top questions about fusion rocket. (III) Real world examples for the usage of fusion rocket in many fields. (IV) 17 appendices to explain, briefly, 266 emerging technologies in each industry to have 360-degree full understanding of fusion rocket' technologies. Advanced Space Propulsion Systems

Advanced Space Propulsion Systems PDF Author: Martin Tajmar
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3709105471
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 139

Book Description
Space propulsion systems have a great influence on our ability to travel to other planets or how cheap a satellite can provide TV programs. This book provides an up-to-date overview of all kinds of propulsion systems ranging from classical rocket technology, nuclear propulsion to electric propulsion systems, and further to micro-, propellantless and even breakthrough propulsion, which is a new program under development at NASA. The author shows the limitations of the present concepts and how they could look like in the future. Starting from historical developments, the reader is taken on a journey showing the amazing technology that has been put on hold for decades to be rediscovered in the near future for questions like how we can even reach other stars within a human lifetime. The author is actively involved in advanced propulsion research and contributes with his own experience to many of the presented topics. The book is written for anyone who is interested in how space travel can be revolutionized.
